How long can ethernet wire be?

Mr.Stork

Im looking to extend my net to upstairs, the length from bottom to upstas is probably around 90 meters. I did google it, it said it the no disturbance limit is around 90-100 meters, but then how does the main net wire from post to my house come without any "electricical" disturbance, it's way longer than 100m (there's a copper wire and a fiber as well). I also don't know much about Cat5,6,7, etc. All I know higher is better lol

I want to buy this wire FEDUS High Speed RJ45 cat6 Ethernet Patch Internet Network Computer Gigabit Category 5E Cable/Cord/Wires for Modem, Router, LAN ADSL (100 m), recommend me wires of 100m if my choice is not good.

Thanks!

Ethernet has a 100m distance limitation. However you can extend that with the right equipment. Fiber has much longer distances it can travel.

That’s why many ISPs use Fiber on all or part of their network. With internet via Coax they run fiber a certain distance in and covert it to coax. The RF signal on coax can be amplified periodically to reach more homes.

100 meters is when signal degradation sets in. Like I stated at a certain point you would repeat the signal. Id be very wary about buying a cable that long, only because thats the max that the spec goes, and you cant guarantee any cable you buy will be good enough. If possible you could put a switch in line to help repeat the signal to make sure it gets there. Or you could choose to use Fiber Optics.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Oh, well I'd have to measure the distance actually

Here are some pointless comparisons....

90m is equal to

6.5 city buses

3 blue whales

45 Michael Jordans (the basketball player, not the actor - that would be 50)

473 unsharpened pencils

1125 m.2 ssd's (the standard 2280 size)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is no real point to this post, just some morning levity.

Okay if you put it like that's a lot long, I'm probably going to need like 50m or so lol cuz it's oviously not going to be straight, it's gonna go up the wall, then ceiling then outside then in. Thanks tho
