Sony finally kills HDCP for the PS4 among other features to be added

Askew

Well it took them long enough IMO, but now the Playstation blog has an article on it stating that in the coming weeks a new update (presumably 1.70) will include a patch for switching off HDCP among other updates such as the addition of video editing software to the OS and the ability to have the 'Share' feature drop files into a USB drive for easy export along with the potential for longer clips to be recorded.

This means people who want to capture gameplay using Elgato/PC cards without the use of HDCP strippers will be able to do so freely, Twitch streams are apparently going to receive a bitrate buff, and Twitch sessions streamed from a PS4 will now support archiving.

All in all good stuff IMO, it's the next best thing to a PC, haters gonna hate. (I said next best thing)

I wonder how my of those pics are one this form.... On topic, I think it's ridiculous that it came with it in the first place. I mean I get DRM for bluerays but for games that people commonly record in this day. Come on.

Most people on PS4 probably wont care.

I certainly do, while I don't make videos from my console anymore that was only due to HDCP so it's a great thing for those who do.

It's not everything I want them to do - pausing downloads (like seriously, wtf) and LAN streaming capabilities like the PS3 - but it's a start.

Really, though.. I didn't know the PS4 had half of this stuff, which is cool but it doesn't matter much.

The fact that Twitch can hardly support a proper stream already is pretty bad. This is just going to make PS4 content look better, it's still not going to be more appealing to watch due to it which is what I think is the most important thing.
