Greetings!

After attempting 100 times to boot my machine and searching the internet for answers - I figured i’ll give this a shot.

My current build is:

ROG Crosshair VIII Hero Wi-Fi (x570)

AMD 5950x - Ryzen 9

Gigabyte GV-N3090 RTX 3090

2x Seagate Firecuda M2

2x16 Gskill Trident Z Royal (32GB )

Corsair Hydro Series H100i

3x Corsair LL120 Series

EVGA Supernova 1000 G+ 80 Plus Gold 100W

So now that I got that out of the way - the problem. I’m constantly receiving Q-code error 02. Upon boot up, it goes through it’s usual cycles and then it gets hung up on 02 with the white led lit (VGA) and the green (Boot) along with no signal display.

I’ve attempted some trouble shooting methods which included:

- Removed the GPU (still received 02)

- Reseated the GPU (still received 02)

- Disconnected and swapped the RAM (still received 02)

- Connected with 1 single RAM (still received 02)

- Boot up with no RAM (received 01)

- Attempted with two other RAM sticks (same spec) - received IF code

- Connected VIA Hdmi (still received 02 along with no signal)

- Connected to a different monitor (still received 02 along with no signal)

Does anyone have any recommendations? I figured i’ll come here before I attempt to send back my GPU or start purchasing other components.

Thank you in advance!

Respectfully

From what I remember this looks like a post code and not really an error code so to say. Your system is hanging during post...

CHECK:

  • PSU cables
  • if PSU works
  • Clear CMOS
  • reseat memory again,
  • etc.

ALSO check for defects: like bent pins, dust in your socket, etc.

I get code 02 a lot with my CH VIII Hero Wi-Fi if my RAM or IF OC fails.

In that case I get no display signal but the motherboard actually wants me to initialize a BIOS setup by pressing F1 key.

Try pressing F1 key and see if the Q-code changes after that.

If yes, then press ESC and after ENTER and you should be able to boot up.

If no, try restarting CMOS and try again or try to update BIOS via the USB flashback feature to a newer version.

for me on my old board 02 was indication of booting and showing display. but also everytime 02 happened my bios would reset. So mayby you have to wait and see if you get the same screen as i

same here. 02 was a bios setup for me. but it happened so randomly that I had to RMA:

Its what they are there for.

Recent issues, I'll post here.

The 02 as mentioned is just a post code. Could be anything.

For errors, plug in the diagnostics speaker.

Thread with solution, may not be related, worth a quick read. A link inside a link.

The OP did not reply for a resolve, so I assume a different PSU did the trick.

So I attempted the F1 key. It changed from 02 to AA, however still no signal. After it changed to AA I attempted to hit ESC and Enter and no response to the monitor. I then powered off the PC and CMOS’d.

One thing I did forget to mention, I did update the BIOS via the USB flashback yesterday. Could this potentially be a dead GPU?

Are you recommending just letting it run on and connected to see if it’ll eventually pull signal?

AA is what I have when I am booted into Windows.

Are you perhaps using wrong input on the monitor? I mean, if you have for example monitor connected via HDMI and the monitor is trying to display intput from Display Port for some reason, check in the monitor OSD menu if you have selected correct intput.

It's likely not the issue though, maybe also try a different PCI-e slot for the graphics card.

yeah AA is basically the code that means "I've handed things off to the operating system, everything is ok here." Except obviously everything is not ok, but whatever the issue is, it isn't something the system recognizes to indicate with a POST code, or is occurring after the POST process.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I tried another PCIE slot and still the same 02 error. Then using your advice (hitting F1) it moved on to AA. However still no signal to the monitor. I tried using a Display port and a HDMI cable afterwards. Same result.

Getting kind of worried here. Not going to lie.

I mean.. yeah @Jcosstv it could be a dead GPU, but I highly doubt that..

does it light up and do the fans maybe spin up at least temporarily?

Check your monitor, check your monitor settings for input (via the little menus monitors have), check your cable, check if there is dust in the PCI-E or any plastic film, etc. Does your monitor work? Does it pick up the signal automatically? Check all of these things.

IDK then. At this point I would then try to eliminate as much HW elements as possible.

I would unplug all drives, including NVMe, and try to boot just with one stick of RAM, try each one in each slot, try the graphics card in each PCIe slot as well. You should be able at the very least to get into the BIOS.

But first I would still at least try to use the USB BIOS Flashback and try to update the BIOS to a newer version (if possible) or an older version if you already have the newest one.

I'm sure maybe someone will come up with an extra idea, however if you can't manage to get your system to post successfully then the only other thing I'd recommend is reaching out to a local computer store and bringing them the base parts to test: CPU, RAM, GPU, MOBO and PSU.

Yeah, you'll pay a fee, but if something is broken, at least you'll know. They have lots of different components there and will be able to properly diagnose the issue precisely due to this reason @Jcosstv.

No lights nor temporary spin on the fans. I can’t really recall how this GPU boots up. So it’s hard to gauge if it’s shot or working regular.

You could also just try bringing the GPU to a friend. It takes 15 mins tops to plug in a diff GPU and just test to see if it works @Jcosstv.

If you have an old Dell or HP case laying around, you can use the case speaker for diag.

Other than that, you can get a little speaker on ebay for about 3$.

I just purchased one. Should be coming in sometime tomorrow. I’ll give the speaker tip a shot.

Update:

I attempted to try a new PSU (850W EVGA) still received the same 02 Q-Code with no display.

I’ve attempted to connect the machine to a TV via HDMI - still received no signal.

Removed and reseated memory modules, M2s and GPU (several times)

Removed CPU and inspected pins - no visible damage.

Connected a console to the monitors - worked fine.

I’m wondering if everything is fried?

I should’ve mentioned how this all happened as well (slipped my mind due to the panic) my apologies. However - I was playing a game on one monitor and the other monitor was the usual (chrome and discord). I clicked over to the monitor that had discord in order to reply and when I clicked back over onto the original monitor to continue gaming. Suddenly, the system crashed and booted right back up again. The machine got hung up for approximately 2 minutes before I hard reset (hit the switch on the back of the PSU) then I started to receive the 02 code. Now here I am ...

I really appreciate all the guidance you all have been providing. Just wondering has anyone else personally experienced this and what were some of the remedies? Im all out of ideas.

Thanks again

- Respectfully
