so i got a ducky one 2 mini silent reds a few weeks back and i noticed the keyswitch was wobblymore then the others like it moves about 1mm i guess,  i was just wondering if this is fine or not?

🤔

No personal experience with Cherry MX Silent Red switches and whether they're normally considered wobbly or not, but I can share some general input on switch wobble. Specifically, stem wobble and switch housing wobble.

  • Stem Wobble: Caused by the slight gap between the switch's stem and the top housing. According to Switch and Click, "This movement is normal and expected from all mechanical switches. The stem wobble can vary from switch to switch, but it is completely normal." If this an issue you can't overlook/accept "as is," I'd say it's more difficult to remedy than switch housing wobble -- not impossible, just... requires significantly more effort/modding, and perhaps more monetary cost. One solution would be to do a stem/housing swap, and hope (emphasis: hope) that the new stem/housing fits more snugly together. 😅
  • Housing Wobble: Caused by the slight or inconsistent gap betwen the switch's top and bottom housings. Much more easier to remedy compared to stem wobble, thanks to the abundance of switch films on the market. Switch films fit between the switch's top and bottom housings, filling in any inconsitent gaps, to reduce housing wobble.

Vendors that carry switch films (not a comprehensive list, just off the top of my head):

If videos or a visual demonstration is more your thing, here's a vid. The fella shows the difference between a wobbly and non-wobbly switch (housing wobble, not stem wobble):
