We know of them. Although they aren't so much refurbished as they are assembled from scrap.

Beyond that, are you asking a question?

Go to this forum and read it extensively before buying the motherboard.

Some are good, some are not, be careful of the purchase.

Also get a 8gbx2 instead of 4x4gb.

From what I understand some of these Chinesium boards can't actually use quad channel because they aren't true X79 chipsets, or they're salvaged defective X79 chipsets. In any case, if 4x4 is what the motherboard bundle comes with, not like we have much of a choice.

2689 is not a bad CPU.

Of course the problem is we're locked into a DDR3 platform with no worthwhile upgrade path. I guess for $100 we're considering the mobo/CPU/RAM basically "disposable"?

I am amused by the preciously optimistic idea of getting a 480 for $100, though...

so should i avoid the chinese mobos??

🤷‍♂️ If all you care about is trying to see how much usefulness you can wring out of the least amount of money there's nothing wrong with playing around with them. You have to understand they're probably going to have limitations, and that if there's any major problem there's not going to be any real documentation or customer support to rely on, or any large community of other users to ask for help. Just about every tech YouTuber anyone's ever heard of has done a video on the Chinesium boards by now so you can watch a bunch of those and probably get a good idea what to expect in terms of quirks. Name-brand X79 boards (Asus, MSI, etc.) still sell for way more in the second-hand market than their capabilities are worth because there's an enthusiast niche for them, so if you want to get bang for the buck from those old LGA 2011 Xeons then the Chinese mystery boards are the only real option.

LGA 1356 was the socket for servers with dual CPU's. LGA 1366 was the socket for X58 chipset, X79's predecessor. In this case I can't tell whether the listing is erroneous and they mean it's an LGA 1366/X58 board, or if they've kitbashed a single-socket LGA 1356 board. Either way I wouldn't buy it because CPU's for X58 are even older and less capable than X79, and if it's really LGA 1356 then the pool of potential CPU's you can use is much smaller and I'm not even 100% sure they'll boot up in a single-CPU configuration.
