I have a AMD FX-6100 and in order to achieve 4.2 Ghz I have the voltage at 1.4V, my temps are 70C max on prime 95 after 8 hours and under 50C while gaming.

So my question is, is 1.4V OK for 24/7 usage or should I have my CPU at 4Ghz at 1.35V?

can you actually dmg a cpu as long as the temp is under control?

Yup. Voltage can kill just like heat can. They both kill. High voltages are usually what kill instantly. Heat usually kills over time. That said, heat can kill instantly as well. And voltage can kill over time (well decrease the longevity)

As long as the temps are fine then any voltage will basically go.

i think i heard that AMD is Fine (er) with higher Voltage then intel, I dont rally know so much about OC'ing i just heard that AMD takes more

Oh. Fair enough. it's past 6:00am for me, cut me some slack. I have no idea what the stock voltage is for the 6100.

The stock voltage for my FX-6100 is 1.250V

I ran my 8320 at 1.325V for 4.3, 70c on core is high for AMD chips. But the voltage is OK if you improve cooling.

I'd back it off to 4/1.35.

I haven seen 8350's running on 1,55 Volts for years,

Those are usually with good cooling and a really good motherboard.

The stock voltage for my FX-6100 is 1.250V

I would try to get a better cooler on it and I would go out to 1.45-1.475 volts for 24/7 use.

O really. That cpu isn't even 2 years old

7 months short. But he may have been putting 8150s and 8350s in the same category in which he would be correct as 8150s are 7 months away from being 3 years old.

That's turbo on 1 core though, so less heat :P

But the voltage was OK just temps a bit on the high side :P

Still 2.5 years isnt really enough to pull accurate results out. Not saying its bad, but you're never ever going to prove its bad and before we will get the data it will be pointless because the cpu's would be outdated and worthless.
