Hello, as of right now, my GPU doesn’t seem to be working. Or at least it doesn’t seem to be giving putting an output.

Backround info:

I was playing one day, and then all of a sudden, my PC suddenly shut off. This never happened to me before, and I’ve had my PC for less than half a year. So after it shutdown all of a sudden, I of course attempted to turn  it back on. But once it did turn back on, I noticed that my GPU fans weren’t moving. Every thing else was turned in, the lights behind my mobo were still on, my CPU fan as well as my case fans were still running. The only thing that didn’t appear to work was my GPU and it’s fans, as my monitor was showing “No input.” I looked online and tried a couple methods to fix this. I removed my RAM sticks and replugged them and removed and plugged back in my GPU, but no results were made. Can someone please give me some advice?

My current specs:

PSU: Corsair 650w

GPU: rx 580

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (with stock cooler)

Storage: 500 GB SSD

RAM: 8 GB x 2

Try reseating the GPU firmly once more, or try another PCIe slot if you have one, also check the 6 pin connector going to it, if possible attempt to change the 6 pin with a new one.

Just tried that once more, still didn’t work, even with my second PCIe cable. (My PSU is modular). Thank you for replying though.

Check the PCIe power cables on the GPU and PSU (If modular). Could also try the GPU in another system if possible. It does seem like the GPU could have suffered a short and the system turned off.

Yeah, I think the GPU could’ve gotten short circuited, as I did try replugging the GPU and swapping the PCIe cable. Nothing happened. Is there a way to know for sure it’s broken? Without putting it into another system? I know it sounds dumb, but I don’t have another system to plug my GPU into (this was my first PC build), and I want to know for sure it’s broken before I get a new one.

And if the GPU was short circuited, would I have to replace my motherboard, CPU, and PSU? They appear to be working fine.

The GPU probably has an internal short. This would be confirmed if another GPU was plugged into the same slot and that GPU worked. This is the only way to tell if the motherboard is in good condition, as well as the CPU's PCI lanes. As for the power supply, the system would have trouble booting if one of the few voltages was up to scratch, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll see if I can get a cheap GPU as a tester, or I’ll most likely just send it to a computer shop if I can.
