Compress images

For images(or GIFs) over the 2mb limit for profile photos there should be some sort of auto compression so that we don't have to manually compress the file wether that be via a sketchy website you found or some way in file manager I'm not aware of. I don't know how much of a hassle this would be or if there is a reason it's not already like this but it would be a nice improvement

If you're trying to upload that large of a PFP, then it should be your own problem to resize and compress it. It's a what, 256x256 square next to posts at most? It doesn't have to be obnoxiously crispy.

For what it's worth, I believe this site already attempts to compress GIFs in a specific way... which is why certain GIFs, especially those with transparencies, tend to break here.

I'm talking about lowering pixel count and mabey lowering the color spectrum. These sorts of things are far from my expertise so I don't know if what your talking about has somthing to do with compressing the colors or if its somthing else.

It's hard to control file size when you steal gifs of tenor and gifey. Also if your working with stock images or a high quality image taken from your phone you cant usually control the res. I'm not saying I want a 4k60 gif as my pfp but if I downloaded a high res image it would be nice for it to automactily be lowered to 180p and 15fps as opposed to having to manually find a way to lower the qaulity.

1. EZGIF is your friend.

2. Still not hard to resize that really, just shove it through an online converter or get it on your PC and use MS Paint. Hell, I'm sure there are apps out there that are plenty idiot-proof to resize regular images.

If using GIFs is such a pain, stop using them? I'm sure more people are happy that way.

Use program called FileOptimizer. It can losslessly shrink almost any multimedia file, particularly images.
