Decent Camera? DSLR? Not sure

Lays

I've been wanting to get a new camera, the one I have now is a... Fujifilm FinePix s700 7.1 MP, it's alright.. But compared to newer technology it's "meh"

I literally don't know diddly squat about cameras, I haven't researched them or anything.

Budget is about 200-300$

99% of what I'll use it for is just pictures.

Recommendations?

I'm assuming it'd be miles ahead of my current camera?

I need it for pictures of my setup+build log, and for future stuff like maybe family gatherings, etc.

The biggest problem I have with mine now, it's a complete crapfest to get it to take pictures without the flash, and when it does take one with the flash, it's almost like the flash is too bright.

Even with the brightest room in my house, the pictures end up looking like garbage, out of focus no matter how many different settings I use.

My current camera quality:

I know in Oz canon 1100D goes for cheap about $400 so its probably cheaper in the US. maybe not the best but at least it is a DSLR, talking about this reminds me to upgrade mine, my wallet is scared.

I can't wait to see pics when you get the camera. love 900D builds especially 2011 ones.

I really want to finish my build, but I want a new camera to take better pictures, the ones with the LED's on+sidepanel on, my flash just drowns out all the details it seems..

I still gotta get backplates+ sleeve cables, and get 8 more gentle typhoons and a zillion other things.

It'd be really nice to have a sweet camera to go along with it. :3

Camera's won't cost much, the lenses that will rip your pocket. I started with Nikon D40x in 2007. Then got a D90. Good thing about DSLR cameras are lenses are interchangeable.

Question again, what will you use your camera for? Indoor, outdoor? You can get a $399 DSLR that would outperform a $799 one if used correctly.

I think it is worth getting a DSLR.  I would rather have an older model from Ebay than a new point and click.

The video I posted was just to demonstrate that you don't need an expensive camera to get great photo's.

Nothing to see here - move along.

Mostly indoors. 90% of it will be for build log pictures

What kind of pics, DSLR is more for professional people who take their time to get that best shot blah blah blah... otherwise get a decent point and shoot from Sony..

If you want the T3i its on sale I believe for like 489 something.

I want a really nice one for my build log, "glamour shots' so to speak, but I want to be able to use it in the future for selling PC parts + family gatherings, etc.

and 489 is way out of the price range, I said 300$ tops in my budget

Yea but its a great DSLR. Wait let me look for something cheaper. Well if you get a DSLR its not gonna be cheap. The camera, you might get for like 300-500 but the lens are what matter to let that light in and get dat Back ground blur.

Well if you with Nikon I recommend a 50mm 1.8 aperture. Aperture wide your lens can open to allow light in the smaller number aperture the more light that comes into the lens and the clearer and better pic you will get esp in low light. This also brings the Blurred background effect which will do good with close ups and details.

Then a Nikon D3100 would be a good choice. Get a 18-55 mm AF-S lens along + macro to get those crazy details on capacitors :)

If you can find some old lenses my friend has a Sony NEX-3N and it takes some amazing pics. But its only cheap if you can find cheap lenses and get a good adapter. **I don't know much about cameras only going off what he took at a LAN party and showed me**

Here is one I took with a Close up lense. Need more work on my photo skills.

No offense, but that picture looks horrible. I hope you didn't spend more than $200 on your camera.
