I don't have much to do this weekend (and I get to play around with a Lenovo ThinkStation with a Core 2 something tomorrow) and I was thinking:

Since both PCIe and CPU power cables only support 12v and ground, are there adapters to convert one to the other? The motherboard I plan to get (X570-E) has both an 8-pin and a 4-pin slot, but my power supply (Seasonic GM-750) only has an 8-pin.

And yes, I know it's not necessary.

But I have a spare GPU power cable and would like to not have it laying around, in case I lose it.

And since I plan to get a 5900X at some point as well, (I might be wrong), but I think having both the 8-pin and 4-pin cables plugged in would be helpful.

Ah yes, because throwing in some random, janky adapter is surely better than leaving the unnecessary 4-pin unplugged. Not.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Though I like that idea better.

So you're just missing these?

Yep!
Also, do you know if this is the same for a semimodular unit as well?
I have a GM-750, where the 24-pin, 8-pin, and 2 6+2-pin are connected, but everything else is removable - so SATA, Molex, and an additional 2x 6+2-pin cable.

The additional 6+2 cable is what I have left over, and what I would like to turn into a 4-pin cable.

I don't know for sure. The motherboard end should all be the same. I haven't heard about them being different. Both sites say they are the same. If you have a multimeter, you could always test for power where power is supposed to be in a 6+2 pin.

https://pc-mods.com/blogs/psu-pinout-repository/evga-psu-supernova-cables-pinout

On a little bit more of a jank note. You might be able to get away with swapping pins around. Move grounds and powers around to get ground and power where you need out of 4 pins. Might be worth a shot to see if you can use cables and connectors on hand. Not sure how "pc gore" you are willing to try and go.

Copy. At the end of the day, all the tool is doing is pushing these two wings "into the terminal" so that they disengage from the plastic connector and pull out.

Since my cable has 2 6+2 cables, do you know if they're soldered at the first connector?
The wires from the PSU go into one 6+2 connector, then more wires come out of said 6+2 and into a second 6+2.

I'd rather not have a 6+2 dangling on the end of my 4-pin, so do you know if they are removable or not?

I don't know if Seasonic solders or crimps. It should at least be crimped together. I didn't realize it was pigtailed.

Guess we'll find out.

This is a project I foresee happening as it doesn't cost $20 or more.

Update on the project:
I ordered the blank 4-pin (and a blank 3-pin fan because I like black over beige).

Cost me $3.57.
After looking at the pin removal thing, shipping costs 8 bucks (idk why) so I think I'll make my own.

That was why I linked the staple thing. If you're not completely resleeving a PSU it doesn't really make sense to buy them. It's nothing really special when you figure all it's doing.

Best of luck on it!

Updates will come here.

This makes 2 things that I bought without my parent's knowledge (this stuff, and a fan).

It's nice being able to just buy things without going to my mom and saying "can I buy this".

While my time on eBay may have been short, it made be 200 bucks and got me my own bank account and PayPal account.

I made my own pin removal out of a bent staple and a SIM removal iFixit bit.

On the topic of the Lenovo/IBM ThinkStation, I got a Core 2 Duo 6400, 4 1GB DDR2 sticks, and an 80GB HDD that takes power from either SATA or Molex.

It does SATA data only, though.
