I9 10850K vs Ryzen 5800X

So, I'm stuck in a choice between a Ryzen 7 5800X priced at 480 euro and an i9 10850k at 410... My budget is 610€ so with Intel I could buy a good z490 mobo to have some fun with oc, with AMD my limit would be a b550-A Pro from MSI and it would be 10€ more expensive in total. I want you to be honest, what should I buy between those two and why?

 

Other relevant infos: -I play 4k with an RTX 3080 -My ram can only go up to 3200mhz daily -Heat shouldn't be a problem since I have a decent 360mm aio

Neither, you play at 4K, you don't need that much CPU power.

What is your FPS target and what games do you play? You could likely get away with a 10400F or a 10100F and see no noticeable performance impact.

60fps is fine,I play a lot of things so let's say the big AAA games are a part of that. I don't want to buy a "low" tier cpu to pair it with a 3080

Would only matter if you had more workloads and more multi-tasking planned. For gaming performance alone even with the RTX 3080 you'll still be GPU bound at 4k meaning you'll get virtually the same performance in-game with a wide variety of processors, from cheap ones to the top of the line ones:

Yeah, if all you want is 60FPS a 10400F is all you need. It will provide you with the same great experience that any higher end chip would give you

There is no reason to be concerned about paring CPU's and GPU's, it just isn't a good idea. You should be paring your CPU and GPU to use load, which for 60fps in triple A games a 10400F is all you need.

CPU + GPU parings is a concept that really should die, it is extremely useless with the varied gaming loads that people put their systems under.

€145 for a 10400F which beats the 3600. A 3600 system is not the way to go at all.

If I was pairing with a 3080, I would get at least the 5600x. If you are considering 1440p on a strong GPU like the 3080, the 8-core might not be a terrible idea either as it does have some gains in some games at that resolution.

 

The 5000 series has the strongest IPC, which will help with minimum framerate regardless of playing at 1080p or 4k. 

 

I would opt for the 5800x over the 5600x because....you have a $900 GPU, so why not?

Yes, but a 5800X is a superior chip and considering he has the finances to support an RTX 3080, a 5800X is not a bad option, especially to last him for a bit longer. 6 cores is standard in 2021, 8 cores is an enthusiast option.

@Leonida99 people on this forum always like to tell other people what they DON'T NEED.

The first question should always be: what do you want your computer to do for you best? Followed up by: What is your budget?

 

If you don't care about the budget that much, or just want to spend it, then by all means, go for a 5800X or 10850K even if you "don't need it". It's a FANTASTIC product and is going to give you a better computing experience overall. The only time you shouldn't go for a 5800X/10850K over a 3600 is if you're at a point where you'd want to downgrade your GPU, while still wanting your computer to perform best at games, specifically. So this is where I COMPLETELY disagree with @HairlessMonkeyBoy.

Hahahha I'm sorry man, didn't mean it to be rude.

 

The thing is the B450/550/X570 platform is at an end as well. Might as well buy a nicer chip (if budget allows/if you don't care for the most optimal price/performance ratio), because upgrading in the future would pretty much mean replacing everything except the SSD or GPU. (assuming we're getting DDR5 in aprox. 2 years)
