Do you usually have to reset BIOS after changing the PSU?

Mark Kaine

Going from Bequiet pure power 10 500w to Bequiet straight power 11 650w, I wonder how big are the chances I don't have to reset BIOS?

Because as you probably guessed, I don't want to reset my BIOS at all, everything works well and it was really difficult to set up, especially the fan curves, which is a pain and can be buggy on this "MSI LITE BIOS"

This is all I'm finding but it doesn't really tell me much

So I just want to know, from experience, how likely is it this psu swap will just work without resetting the BIOS?

I'll also keep using my pcie and sata power cables as they're supposed to be compatible according to Bequiet, if that matters...

You should never have to do that? A psu is literally just a power delivery thing it doesn't do anything else but that. It doesn't communicate any data it's basically a self contained dumb device.

Nope - no need to reset the BIOS after a PSU swap.

I've never heard of replacing a powersupply requiring you reset your bios.

so just like my mobo 😄

well alright, I'm taking pics of my fan curves now but let's hope I don't need it (as said, massive pain to set up)

A motherboard is not a self contained dumb device tho. It's a very smart device that instructs many things.

I know its not self contained, but I definitely would call my motherboard rather dump, while it does its job fairly well, the oddities it's showing is something else...

Not as bad as the b450 tomahawk max that I had for a week mind you, that was basically unusable lol.

Anyway, it all went well, no bios boot, pc seems to run fine...

only thing I don't like is the fans are spinning too low, my old psu was also an exhaust for the cpu, the new PSU's fan is way too slow, 50 rpm if I had to guess. 🤷🏼
