what's yer favourite webcam and why?

_thomas

as thousands of others are i'm in the market for a webcam. Gotta make sure my colleagues can see every stray hair and wrinkle in every meeting. Full disclosure, i ordered a Logitech Streamcam yesterday, but i'm wondering what you all use and why you went with it?

I just use a C920, it does its job. I considered a StreamCam, but decided that most people don't particularly care about your video quality -- especially considering most mainstream conferencing apps like Zoom and Teams use aggressive compression and limit your video to 1080p@30FPS.

Plenty, just depends on whether one is using Android or iOS. For Android e.g. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.newtek.ndi.hxcam is pretty good.

so in short best webcam is camera you already have. even its phone on the stand. phone cameras not bad for job and reduce waste as you dont need separate buy for job.

you know, i thought to look into that at one point. Got an iPhone 11 pro so the camera is plenty good enough (to beat my work laptops camera) but yeah, didn't look into how to do it effectively. Anyone have any tips, throw them up here!

dang, didn't know that about Zoom and hadn't even considered that (OFC) these platforms are controlling your throughput to maintain service. Am using Slack, Teams and Zoom every day for video so perhaps the streamcam is good future proofing at least if and when these platforms lift or raise their limits. Plus, i'm sure my family will like to see how the aging process is affecting me when on facetime with them

Streamcam is not a good deal. Go buy a C922 as a entry level webcams, when you become more professional then you get a DSLR camera as a webcam

Webcams are one of the most stagnant markets.

I just recently got a Logitech Brio but I used the Logitech C910 and TBH that webcam although it is now what 8 years old? Is still better than most selficameras and I think better than all alptop cameras......

Honestly the c910 is good enough for most usecases.

If you need to stream a conference table get a specialised camera with mechanised movement.

If you are a streamer get a mirrorless camera and use it as a webcam.

Why I got the Brio?

Well for windows hello my life situation changed and I can not be arsed to password protect my work desktop......

The convenience was worth it for me to overpay a 100 euros......

Obviously I still use passwords for work data VPN and all of that but just to cover my screen and auto log out and in it got really annoying to enter the password so often.
