Is the 2700k still a decent CPU

Yes.

Changes between the new tops isn't that big. (Mostly more power efficient!) :D

Great CPU. if you are getting it cheap then go for it.

If it's overclocked to 4.5+ ghz yes

The 2600(k)? Is an awesome cpu and i'm quite happy with mine. I didn't really win the silicone lottery but i got it up to 4.5GHz (high voltage)

I upgraded from my 2700k which was @ 4.8GHz to a 4700k which is at @ 4.5Ghz do you think it was a good decision?

It depends, i would say kind-off. I would lie if i said i didn't want to upgrade, but i know i don't have to in a few years at-least (10-50% cpu usage whilst playing games and editing videos in Sony vegas or Adobe after effects.)

 

As i said earlier most changes in the cpu's is power efficiency, yes there is some bumps here and there but not that get's used that much. (better onboard graphics and such)

No K.... If it would be K and would Oc to 4.5 Ghz i would right that moment order a new z77 mobo and 2 780 Tis to it.

I wouldn't have, maybe if you were 1366 and wanted new features, otherwise prob would have just got a nice Z77 board (for newer ivy features) and oced my 2700k,

Still rocking my 2600K @ 4.0ghz at the moment, can do 4.8Ghz with just a Hyper212+, no doubt taking it above 5.0ghz when watercooled.

Sandy/Ivy/Haswell, clock for clock, you wouldnt notice in game unless specifically looking at your minimum fps constantly. average and maxfps are so close to the same with the same GPU.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
