Error ever since I installed my ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3070 Twin Edge OC.

Waifu4Life

Hi there,

Every since I installed my ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3070 Twin Edge OC (I had a Gigabyte GTX 1080 before), a few times a week, my screen will go black and I get this error in my Event Viewer:

The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video3
0000(0000) 00000000 00000000

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table

A few things:

1- I never had this with my GTX 1080

2- My NVIDIA drivers were updated before installing the card

3- The ZOTAC card was purchased new

4- I never had this issue when playing a game, just using Chrome and/or navigating my computer

Cheers

2021-01-21 EDIT:

Going to knock on wood here, but it's been 11 days since I updated my BIOS from F51 to F60f, updated my NVIDIA drive to 461.09 and disabled hardware acceleration in Chrome. Don't know which one of these steps worked, but I didn't get the issue since then.

I know you said your drivers were updated but an easy thing to try would be use DDU to wipe them entirely and then install the latest drivers fresh.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

But it's the same driver if I use a GTX 1080 and an RTX 3070, yes no?

Just try it. I've had strange behavior when switching between Nvidia cards that "should" use the same driver in the past, like a 980 and a 1660.

I just started to get this error this morning too. Caused several black screens in the span of a few minutes. Didn't install a damned thing recently, so I'm guessing a Win10 update screwed something up. My event viewer:

Installed the 461.09 driver that dropped yesterday and haven't had a black screen since.

UPDATE: I flushed the driver in Safe Mode using DDU and installed the latest driver, just got the issue again a few minutes ago. So the issue is something else.

Any luck? I just got same issue here. Just bought a new ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3070 Twin Edge without OC to replace my GTX 1060.

Same os, same driver. the black screen issue just appear suddenly. It never shows when gaming. only shows on browsing.

Seems like a issue with Zotac twin edge particular. I would contact them and say that other people have the same problem too. Mayby they will release a bios update to fix those error.

No, I'm on a RTX 3070 Founders.

Found a lengthy discussion of black screen issues affecting a range of RTX 3070s on Nvidia's official forums

I see. well, but you had those issues before...?  So this could still be a "fix" for people with issues...

it's just weird I had zero issues, although I did read the studio drivers are more stable and actually recommended by gigabyte so that's what I installed (not to mention I'm using an "underpowered" 500w PSU, but hey...)

I had sporadic black screens, but it didn't really bother me until it happened about a dozen times within a span of a few minutes back on January 8th. We can see from my Windows reliability monitor how it was happening every few days (red X's on the 2nd row) until 1/8 when it was so bad that I updated drivers and it stopped happening completely.

Yes, same driver, doesn't mean it maybe doesn't do different things... if anything you should have installed it *after* switching to new card.

. just DDU then reinstall, not a guaranteed fix but worth to try it.

Edit : so bios / driver update, huh.

weird but every system is different, might be a windows thing also.

I've had the same issue with a Inno3D RTX 3060Ti x2 OC as well. Have you found any more information on what may be the cause?

Hi, Im having this exact same issue with my MSI 3060Ti Ventus 3X, with a difference, it only happens when gaming, first it was only with very demanding games like RDR2 and Cyberpunk, but then also with games like GTAIV, but only after a few hours.

But same event

The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

Bought the card December 20th, not an issue until early January, and it started to happening with more frecuency, but always gaming. Ive been using the PC since then to not-to game and not even once had a -blackscreen flickering and restart- thing.

460.89 drivers

@the_importer

Can you tell me more about the bios update? Where did you get it? I can't find any information about bios updates for Zotac 3070 Twin Edge, not on their website or on the web... I would appreciate more info, also struggling with this issue, I thought I've had it sorted out (no issues for a few months) but after updating Win10 a few days ago it started again 😞 I get some occasional flicker of colored stripes when watching video (youtube, media player classic) and also blackscreen and back to normal (only when watching videos) 😕

Looks like they changed their website and those bios files got removed, probably under development. You can always tried googling for the bios, maybe you can get it from another site.
