I was GPU shopping a few months ago and found that the best bang for the buck was a 1070 or 1070ti I went for the 1070 which I bought $180 used and ended up being pretty nice.

OUTDATED JAN 2021 ===========> Check out my pc building guide! might be useful tho

It's great for planning new builds, getting a reference on where to start, or seeing what you need to play what games.

It also shows what I recommend for upgrading your stuff!

ram - (2x8) 3200mhz

ssd - 970 evo plus 500gb

It seem like this machine comes with a LGA2011 motherboard with a C602 chipset, meaning the CPU upgrade options are a bit limited.

I feel like the most useful upgrade right now would be a better processor (along with more/faster RAM), although saving up and upgrading both your mobo and CPU to something more modern seems like an even better idea.

If you really want to get a CPU upgrade in the meantime you can check out the list of compatible one's on PC Part Picker and try to buy one with more cores or higher clocks.

Put a "Supermicro X9SRA" on the motherboard slot and browse CPUs with the compatibility filter on.

Hmm ok but how big of a bottleneck will it be tho?

It's not possible to really calculate that but you can watch this video to get a notion of how it works and what different levels of bottlenecking look like.

Bro?

I kind of think your best bang for the buck upgrade would be CPU over GPU.

When you're using your pc as you normally would, is your CPU or GPU the one at 100% usage?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Hi everyone.
Found this topic with similar problem that I have.
Buy now, or wait for price drop to buy more powerful setup.

I have now:

Intel i7-3770

Asus P8Z77-V LX

Corsair Vengeance 16 GB DDR3 RAM

Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti

I can get for 770 USD:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT (pre-owned)

Gigabyte Aorus B550 Pro (brand new)

G.Skill RipJaws V Series 16 Gb 3600 Mhz RAM (pre-owned)

Obviously GPU will migrate to newer system.

Any advice what must I do?
