Which hard drive should I choose?

I am planning to build a nas server with 8 hard drives in it for mass storage. I just wanted to know if I can put 8 non-nas drives together in close proximity or should I buy nas drives instead?

Get NAS drives. I am running WD red but it now depends on the capacity you chose as the new ones are SMR, which is not recommended.

Else I'd go seagate ironwolf.

What raid do you want to run and what OS?

NAS means ( Network Attached Storage)

These drives are meant to be running 24/7 ...

While our typical PC Hard drives are not to be intended to be used in such harsh conditions or situations..

I am planning to run ZFS in RAIDZ and I am going to use Freenas as my OS

Edit: Thanks for the advice

He didn't ask for the explaination of what it is and how it works -_-

He asked Us:-

Quote

if I can put 8 non-nas drives together

So i gave him the explanation.

Not,,, if anybody is hurt by it.

If they don't want then they skip it.
