Goal: ONLY gaming at 1440p.

My current pc is quite old:

i5-2500k
8gb ram @ 1333 mhz

Asrock Pro 3
GTX 1060 3gb

Hdd 7200rpm 2TB

SSD 256gb

Im thinking about making this upgrade now, to last a few years:

PCPartPicker Part List
Type Item Price
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor €205.00
Motherboard Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE V2 ATX AM4 Motherboard €114.95 @ Megekko
Memory Kingston HyperX Fury 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory €70.85 @ Alternate
Power Supply Cooler Master MWE Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply €86.00
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
  Total €476.80
  Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-12-28 13:19 CET+0100

And then, once the GTX 3060Ti comes out..i'll upgrade it. STORAGE/PERIPHERALS are covered.
What do you guys think of the setup, and the idea of "temporary" upgrade? I think all but the CPU might be able to last a few years, no? Thank you.

Gaming at 1440p you kinda need a good GPU.

3060ti to 3070, all those pixels be braking the bank in a high noon robbery.

I guess that can be something to look forward to with your build and if prices will come down by time (or just get worse).

Quite an RAM upgrade from your older one, maybe the same with CPU :P

Exactly, my idea is to add the 3060ti in a few months once it's in stock. So for the rest you think it's good? that will last a few years at least?

With a 3060ti and at 1440p, even the 3600 should last plenty of years. Your build plan is good.

Thanks a lot man! :) just wanted some confirmation! I need the pieces to last a few years...so, to just upgrade the gpu in a few months once it's back in stock.

Don't think some of the GPU's will last too long in 1440p but the 3070 would be a better bet for the resolution.

It could be that they bump up the graphics in games or how they are handled making it even worse for something like the 3060ti in the future.

the 3070 should be more future proof for that resolution, unless they release some other cards by nvidia or AMD that will be a good choice for it.

But it also depends on how much FPS you want in your games, like shooters or single player games.

It should be fine, although Intel might give more FPS but the upgrade path on an B550 board for AMD to their 5000 series could be something to look into.

As their 5000 series have a nice upgrade when it comes to gaming, but it really depends on where you want to go and how much money to use. Too much and you might overspent for even further into the future upgrades, but think the current CPU line you are going for should do you fine, and upgrade the GPUs in the future when there is a demand.

How's the pricing on 10600k, and accompanying board?

You could also consider that option if it's available to you, it's a better gaming chip than 3600 though not by much, averagely

You can upgrade to a 5600 if you stick to AMD, but you may also be able to upgrade to 11600k (if they call it that), so it's pretty much the same stuff, in term of upgradability.

I would also consider 32GB RAM if you're thinking of using this PC for long term, 16gb is enough for today, but I myself have already run into maxing out my 16gb while gaming lol, though I'm a bit of an edge case I guess

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I'm still using 8GB of ram :P but yes, more than 8 would be good too.

Also you can just add 2 more sticks of ram in the future.

or go for a higher priced 8 GB per stick ram, or 16 gb.

The more ram, you will also increase a bit more usage of ram, but can sometimes gain a bit of performance when having enough.

Yeah, the issue with intel is that im not familiar with what's best right now, and i think they're more expensive. Also i would need a different mobo. As for the memory...the board will be ready to upgrade to 32gb in the future, but i guess 16gb is good for now :)

That's why I gave you an equivalent model of CPU to find the pricing for...

But it's fine if you don't feel like using Intel

Do you already own the AMD board? If yes then forget about going Intel

That's a viable option but be wary that mixing RAM kits might not work well, but the chances of it not working is quite slim, so you're probably fine in this regard.

I understand. Thanks a lot for the insight man! I also thought about intel but after nights and nights of research i'm going the easy way and trust the 3600 lolol. Thanks :)

Aight

Either way is not a wrong choice anyways

Yeah you won't be able to unless you upgrade GPU also not to make you sad but there won't be another GTX GPU as we know

Reminder⚠️

I'm just speaking from experience so what I say may not work 100%

Please try searching up the answer before you post here but I am always glad to help
