Just buy battery water if you can't find distilled for a decent price

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Distillation is the process of evaporating something to purify it. I won't go into too much detail, but basically, water boils at 100 degrees celcius, but the impurities in it don't. So by heating your impure water to 100 degrees and turning it into a gas (water vapour), then recapturing it, you leave the impurities behind and just have the water.

You need special equipment to capture and condense the water vapour. If you've done this in a chemistry class - which some schools do - then it will likely have involved a fractionating column and a liebig condenser (basically a glass tube with cold water running through it). So unless you have that kind of equipment at home, then no, you can't make it yourself.

Thanks for reading all this by the way!

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

Yes but not worth the equipment. You can get distilled water from most gas stations as well as automotive parts stores, most home improvement places and usually local supermarkets will have it as well in smaller quantities. Besides cooling you should also use it for ironing your laundry unless you have water which is very low on minerals already. If you can't get your hands on it, you can use regular tap water as well but I would not run it long term as it tends to either corrode or gunk up your radiator due to algea an microbial growth. A solution could be to mix tap water with car antifreeze. Use about 10 ml of antifreeze on 100 ml of water. If the system is intended to run for more than a few weeks, using distilled water with the proper mix with a coolant additive is imperative.
