AMD 2700x 3070 3800x/xt or 9700k/9900k?

I got a 3070 and see terrible 1080p performance. Weirdly enough the cpu sits at 30% usage (cant tell if it is bottle-necking or not), however I'm looking to upgrade anyway.

I use my pc for mostly gaming, however I do use cad/video editing at times so I still want decent core counts (8+).

I'm not sure if the 2700x is to blame for the fps dips below 50 and lame performance compared to other people's benchmarks with the 2700x and 3070. I have an asrock b450m pro4 motherboard and so I could go to the 3800x/xt with no bios update/mobo required, for ~$400 for just the cpu. OR, I could get a 9700k for $270, and a mobo for ~$100, or the 9900k with same cores/threads as my 2700x for $360 + mobo for ~$100.  I have a coolermaster ml240l v2- is this enough cooling for the intel/amd upgrades? I would like to overclock somewhat, maybe not to 5.2 but at least 5 if I get intel

And about the 5000 series cpus I really would rather not

My question is should I get the AMD, or the Intel? If intel, should I get the 9700k/9900k? Would I really notice a difference without the threads in the 9700k? I just need some experienced peoples advice. If there is somethign I'm missing or some other option please let me know

id suggest just waiting if yo can. If you wait for the 5600x to come into stock that will be a larger performance leap and better overall for you.

I would neevr buy a 9700k if you can buy a a 10600k for the same price.

9700k is a scam and not worth it. 9900k is not bad if you can find a good deal . Since you have a b450 motherboard that can support Ryzen 5000 series, I suggest you to wait till Ryzen 5000 is in stock. Going from Ryzen 2000 to 5000 is a big jump in performance. If you go with Intel, then you have to spend money on a new cpu and motherboard and you have to reinstall Windows. With AMD and your setup, you just swap the cpu, reapply thermal paste, and reconnect your cooler.

5600x is not bad if you only focus on gaming. 5800x is more better because 8 cores and 16 threads.

Now that you mention that, 5000 suddenly sounds a whole lot more appealing. Would it beat intel in gaming though? user benchmark is showing in games like fortnite that the 5600x gets 120 vs the 9900k ~150 fps. Or I could just get a 9900k. Woudl that have comparable performance to the 5600x? It has 2 more cores and 4 more threads that would be good for productivity stuff.

Some games may be better on Intel being the game was likely written and optimized on an Intel....

AMD has better (WAY better) performance to the watt and the 5000 series chips are just all around faster from IPC to thread count. There's no reason not to by a 5000 series AMD processor at this time. Intel can't shake a stick at it.

Intel is still hold its ground against AMD on gaming, but with Ryzen 5000 the gap between Intel and AMD for gaming performance is not a lot like 5 to 7 fps. Not a lot of different to not consider AMD offer on the table. Userbenchmarks is not reliable and accurate and bias. Not recommend it.

Here is a benchmark video show 5600x go up against i7 10700k

Thanks! I will definitively consider the 10700k and I can get it for only $320

If your are going to spend 500+ on a new chip and motherboard, why not look at the 5900x? It seems really silly to jump to a different platform if you already have an amd motherboard. Get the 5600x, they are easy to find in stock, depending on your market

if u can sit on ur current cpu a bit longer i'd recommend a 5600x for pure gaming, otherwise a good deal on a 10700k should be fine.

I can a bit longer. It's just annoying with the huge bottle-necking of my gpu. I'll go for the 5000 series something. Do you know if the bios for b450 mobos have been released?

that depends on your exact mobo, i've heard dates in jan and feb, some of the mobos are not gonna get bios,

Ok. I have an asrock b450m pro4image.thumb.png.02cee16a1db6fcd4b79d4d472bab50f4.png

I assume that is the correct bios that will make it compatible with 5000. So maybe I wont have to wait until feb
