What PSU should I get for a ryzen 5000 and rtx 3000 build

Mctech

Hello! As the title implies, I have an EVGA RTX 3070 Ultra and am planning on getting a ryzen 5 5600x. I was told that 650 watts should be sufficient for this build, however, I am concerned because my RTX 3070 is factory overclocked by EVGA.

So, my first question would be that is 650 watts good enough? Or should I go for 750 watts in terms of performance and maybe some future proofing for future cards or processors?

My next question would be which brand I should go with (or which product). I have heard amazing things about seasonic but their prices are relatively higher. I know that newegg users love seasonic and tend to give mixed reviews for corsair or coolermaster branded power supplies. I was looking towards getting the seasonic focus GM or GX.

Thanks again!

650W would be enough, but I would recommend getting a min of a 750W PSU for more headroom for upgrades and 750W PSUs have better cabling options than 650W PSUs do.

I would recommend a Corsair RM750x or RM750W.

i9 9900K @ 5.0 GHz, NH D15, 32 GB DDR4 3200 GSKILL Trident Z RGB, AORUS Z390 MASTER, EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB, Samsung 860 EVO 1TB, Samsung 860 EVO 500GB, ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q 27", Steel Series APEX PRO, Logitech Gaming Pro Mouse, CM Master Case 5, Corsair AXI 1600W Titanium.

i7 8086K, AORUS Z370 Gaming 5, 16GB GSKILL RJV DDR4 3200, EVGA 2080TI FTW3 Ultra, Samsung 970 EVO 250GB, (2)SAMSUNG 860 EVO 500 GB, Acer Predator XB1 XB271HU, Corsair HXI 850W.

yeah I was leaning towards a 750 watt supply. Just out of curiosity, why are you recommending the corsair RM or RMx series? They cost nearly the same as the seasonic focus so I was wondering why the corsair brand was chosen.

I see, I will take your response into consideration and do some research. It is definitely a tie right now between seasonic and corsair

Thanks!

i see thanks for the heads up, I am just skeptical about the corsair psus because newegg users often report DOAs which gave that product 4 out of 5 eggs compared to seasonic which has 5 out of 5.

Dunno, running 3X Corsair PSUs right now with no issues.

I really never liked the Focus since they are loud, had a few Primes though.

ahh yes thanks for replying again, your experience indeed shows that maybe those one star reviewers got lemons.

Other than the Corsairs, other good options are the Be Quiet Straight Power 11, MSI MPG, Fractal Design ION+ and Enermax Revolution. 750W is fine, 850W if you want more headroom.
