Help replacing my CPU cooling

Hi all,

I used to have a Corsair H75 AiO, but I noticed it made some weird noises. I swapped it out for the stock cooler of the R5 3600 for now, but I think I will buy a new air cooler.

I was looking at the Scythe Mugen 5 which is very good apparently, however I would really like the top to be black. There is an RGB version which has the black top, so I was thinking I can just order that one and replace the single RGB fan for two of the fans that were included with the H75.

Now the question is, will this perform about equal to a standard Scythe Mugen 5. I understand that this is difficult to answer, but what I really want to know is whether the Mugen 5 is good because of the heatsink, or is it only good because of the included fans. If it's the latter, swapping out the fans won't do me much good.

Thanks :)

Yes should be better than H75, and yes you can use the Corsair fan.

Be advised, check case compability:

The Mugen 5 RGB has a good heatsink and the included fan is okay. The H75 fans might not be as quiet but the two combined probably perform better.

What case and ram are you using? Where are you shopping / located?

I have a FD meshify C and g.skill ripjaws V memory. I'm thinking I'll just buy a dark rock 4 Pro or alternatively a arctic freezer 34 duo black/white. I saw that the fans extrude beyond the heatsink on the mugen 5, I don't like how that looks tbh.

Depending on how black you want the cooler, good options include:

Phantom: https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/887311/gelid-solutions-phantom.html

Gammaxx GTE V2: https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1596214/deepcool-gammaxx-gte-v2-zwart.html

Good options, especially the Phantom. Not sure how much I want to spend yet, but if I'm going for a budget option that'll certainly be in my shortlist. Thanks.
