1440p or new cpu?

Hey! I'm currently in a dilemma were I can't choose between upgrading from my current cpu (i7-8700k) to the new 5900x or buying a 1440p monitor. Some people have said that I should instead of buying the cpu buy a 1440p monitor and vice versa. My i7-8700k is 3 years old and I'm running it on a monitor with the following specs: VA-panel, 165hz, 1ms, Freesync. I have this Freesync monitor because I bought it years ago without knowledge of the technologies I could benefit from if I chose the right one. I do regret it, but it is what it is. The monitor's name is Optix AG32C.

So can someone please tell me what to do. If I were to buy the 5900x, would it benefit me a lot in gaming? I saw graphs that Steve from Gamers Nexus showed on a video that in Cyberpunk the 5900x beats the i7-8700k by far in 1080p. But then in 1440p there was like a 11 fps difference were 5900x was still in the lead.

i7-8700k is still very capable. If it was my system I would only consider a good used deal on a 9900k for a CPU upgrade, not worth a full rebuild IMO.

 

Get a nice 1440p monitor instead, gaming load is more GPU bound at higher resolutions so if you inevitably upgraded the monitor it would not be a significant uplift to go for a 5900x. 

 

So in short keep your 8700k, OC it as much as you can, and get a 1440p monitor.

Keep what you have. 

No reason to upgrade. 

5900X will only make difference if you already have a top end graphics card. Except there is barely any difference in games between 5600X and 5900X so you may as well just grab the 5600ax if you really want to upgrade and you're just gaming.

Thank you for your reply. But I do have a high-end graphics card (3080). I haven't received it yet because of stock issues. But I'll just go with a 1440p monitor then.
