Thanks for reading all this by the way!

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

Hmm, well if you can wait on the 3080 you can just build it yourself for cheaper. But, to answer your question, yes, Alienware pcs have been proven multiple times to be the worst

they're actually pretty good... lol

overpriced, not always "the best" but have the right performance for the parts and quality is generally ok'ish.

and you know what's the best part? you don't have to build it yourself, they come already completely prebuilt - which is why people buy them, and they're much better than your average ibuypower-whathaveyou pre-builts...

Spoiler

for the record I would never buy an Alienware pc because they're overpriced and a little bit too "edgy" for my tastes, but I totally understand the target audience, and it makes sense for them (not good with computers, too much money for their own good lol)

I was going to buy a AMD 3950X 32GB RAM AND A RT 3080 VIDEO (10gb) performance edition vid card.

If I was going to make another purchase, I would get the bare minimum RAM and replace it with a full non Dell kit.  The HyperX that comes in the Aurora is a different voltage than the same thing from HyperX.  They won't play together.

They aren't good at all. They use generic "off the shelf" ram that's got no heatsink and runs at bare-minimum speed. They use a proprietary case that costs almost more than the system itself and has worse airflow than some of the worst options out there. Unless you explicitly choose a better heatsink, they only apply a stock option that's barely passable. Not to mention they charge absurd prices for super simple upgrades. $350 for 32GB RAM? lolwut? You can get 32GB for less than half that.

The only reason to buy an Alienware is because they get OEM parts of standard consumer products first, so things like the 3950X and RTX options... but if you're trying to overpay a grand for a PC you could build for cheaper, just go out and buy a 3080 from a scalper and you might actually end up saving more money. xD

Well I meant they're good in comparison to "other prebuilts" as they're at least configured competently usually and use DELL hw mostly and not some no name trash afaik.

I said it's overpriced yeah. 🤷🏼

There's another, people who don't want or can (those exist trust me) build their PC DIY style, for them this is a good option because as said it's better than most other "prebuilt brands"

I know a guy who buys a new Alienware every 2 years, he doesn't know anything about computers and is apparently very happy with it...

No they aren't. The parts they use are actually considerably worse than those in any equally priced DIY build, on an individual basis no less. You'd be better off buying the parts you want and having a local PC shop build the system if you don't want to deal with that struggle. It'll be better in the long run and every part has a warranty in case something fails. Dell takes eons to take care of anything.

Here is the Alienware Aurora R11 configuration sent to TechRadar for review:

CPU: Intel Core i9-10900K (3.7GHz base, 5.3GHz boost, 16MB cache)
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090
RAM: 4 x 16GB HyperX Fury @ 2,933MHz
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming
Power Supply: 1000W
Storage: 2TB PCIe NVMe SSD + 2 TB 7200RPM HDD
Ports (front): 3 x USB-A; 1 x USB-C; 2 x 3.5mm Audio
Ports (rear): 3 x DisplayPort, 1 x HDMI, 1 x LAN, 6 x USB 2.0, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, 1 x USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 2, 1 x Optical S/PDIF,65 x Audio jack, 1 x coaxial audio out
Connectivity: Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX 1650; Bluetooth 5.1

could have fooled me!

Btw they give it a 4 ⭐

PS: another reason of course is people who buy those often buy them for the "console like experience", they're small, hopefully don't need to get serviced, and of course do get serviced should something happen, it's just an all around better choice than most other "prebuilts".

But there's one thing that you have to keep in mind here: because of the scale of Dell, it will be quicker to get service if anything goes wrong, especially if you don't know much about PC hardware to begin with.

Either way, though, none of those other gaming PCs will have the downright futuristic design that the Alienware Aurora R11 sports. This gaming PC seems to completely ignore what's trendy in the world of gaming PCs, eschewing glass side panels in favor of the out-of-this-world Legend design language that the company has been using on everything for the last couple of years.

This right here is why people buy Alienware ~

As said it makes totally sense for the target audience.

Note: it's one of the ugliest PCs I've ever seen, but different folks, different tastes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
