rx 580

with 8gb ram

be good enough for vr?

It should run lighter VR games alright as long as you're not pushing a ton of pixels -- Rift S, original Vive, etc would be fine, Valve Index or another high resolution headset would be pretty difficult.

will it still run slightly more needy vr games but just slightly worse?

You'd probably run into some frame drops-- you could just turn settings down to make them run a little smoother most likely.
