1440p with a GTX1060 6GB?

CerynVengerburg

So I’m thinking of upgrading my monitor from a 27” 1080p 60Hz to a 27” 1440p 144Hz monitor. But there is one thing that’s is on my mind, my graphics card. Is it a good idea to pair a GTX1060 6GB with such a monitor? Of should I stick with 1080p?
I was planning on getting 30 series graphics card by it is what it is. So in the future graphics upgrade.

what games do you play?

AAA games wont run at 1440p 144fps on a 1060 6gb, maybe on low~medium settings?

but if you're upgrading piece by piece, i think it's a good investment

1440p 144hz is nice, and displays are good for a long time

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I'm getting about 50-70 FPS in most games at high 1440p on my 1070.  The 1060 will be lower.  Even if your GPU can't handle it, upgrading the GPU in the future you will be set.  GPUs get replaced faster than monitors.  You will lose more perceived value over time playing with a powerful GPU on a weak monitor.
