When is RTX 3080 expected to be more readily available, and could I run one?

Ive been considering upgrading to an RTX 3080 some time early next year, I was wondering when they might be more readily available and more reasonable prices (im in the UK btw).

 

I was also wondering whether or not i could run this card on my system without any huge bottlenecks. I plan to upgrade my CPU to a Ryzen 5000 series some point later next year, but until then I'll have to make do with my current cpu.

 

Specs:

I5 6600k

RX 480

32GB ram

650W 80+ Bronze PSU

 

Ill probably be playing games like Cyberpunk 2077, Dark Souls 3, RE2 & 3, AC Valhalla, etc at 1440p/4k @60Hz

You might need to upgrade your PSU first to a 750 W or 850 W unit, and then your CPU\motherboard. 32 GB RAM is plenty if you can carry it over to a new build.

 

As for "when can I buy", sign up for alerts and hope for stock to normalize in 4-6 weeks. If stocks don't normalize in early Jan, the launch is a Fail.

Probably not until the spring, but nobody really knows when things will come back in stock.

Im curious why Nvidia is saying they recommend a 750W psu, i checked my system on pcpartpicker with a 3080 and it estimated my system would use around 570W, im guessing its an upper estimate to be safe if your planning on OCing or something?

Fair enough, Im just hoping theyll be easier to get a hold of around January/February time, but I may be being optimistic.

I'd upgrade that PSU before 3080, they recommend 750 but some reviewers have said that its a pretty accuration requirement. Personally I'd go for 850 for the overhead

 

As for 3080 stock Q1 2021 is my guess

Best that you buy an 850 W unit so that all 3080 models can run with ease.

Most PSUs are trash, the recommendation is for the low end PSUs which most people use on account of them being 2-3 times cheaper than a high quality PSU.

Like people said here, PSU needs an upgrade.

I would recommend investing in them, I bought a gold certified EVGA G2 5 years ago, I still have 5 years warrenty left.

It's easy to cheapen out on them, but if you invest in them they will last a decade (or when current cables become obsolete)

 

For "future proofing" I would go above 750 watts as well.

 

Availability no one knows, as time goes by the date seems to be pushed further back, and AMD's release being as bad if not worse has made stock issues worse then expected.

I currently have a gold certified EVGA G1, although I did buy it when I first built my PC in 2016 so maybe I do need an upgrade, Im probably gonna see how an RTX 3080 runs and if I notice instability then Ill get a new PSU

As someone who had a PSU not being able to keep up with my GPU

What will happen is your PC will randomly restart at high loads, I had this issue when I had a 8800GTS, I think I had a 400 or 500 watt PSU.

I replaced several things before finally realising I needed a better PSU
