Have you tried any of the other 2 m.2 slots or just the top?

Hey I recently built a new computer and this is the first time I bought a m.2 NVMe SSD and my computer doesn't seem to be recognizing it my motherboard is an x570 gigabyte aorus ultra and the ssd is a samsung 970. I have it plugged into the top slot not sure if that matters.

Have you gone into disc management and formatted the drive? If its going to be used for extra storage space, you need to format it first before it will be useable.

on the bottom under disk 1, there looks to be another entry. Scroll down and I bet you will find a black blob that will be your m.2 that needs formatting.

mmmk, that would be the next logical step to see if either you got a DOA drive or have a bad motherboard slot.

yeah i put it into the 3rd slot and it worked not sure if this is a bad motherboard thing or just how the board is designed

Top one should be wired directly into your CPU, but you can confirm this with your Motherboard manual. If it is, I would try placing it back in there again as sometimes a re-seat can fix it. if still nothing, I would RMA your board for a dead m.2 slot.
