Considering the kinds of questions I see here about every 5 minutes, I'd say 99% of the people here have never even heard of Google or the concept of trying to find answers themselves first.

There's no need for that. Most questions posted are by those who are starting the hobby or expanding their knowledge. And I personally don't understand why you would want newbies answering newbies. That sounds really bad idea knowing how hard it's to root out misconceptions.
