OUR VERDICT

Intel's Core i7-8700 is surprisingly similar to the company's more expensive -8700K in our benchmarks. You do lose the ability to overclock, but save $50 dollars in the exchange. Unfortunately, Intel's bundled cooler isn't able to cope with the -8700's thermal output, which means you need an aftermarket solution to realize the CPU's peak performance.

FOR

  • Small real-world performance difference compared to Core i7-8700K
  • Lower price than the -8700K

AGAINST

  • Bundled cooler is not sufficient
  • Locked ratio multiplier

Hello everyone! I hope someone can help me figure what is wrong.

My previous GPU was GTX 1070Ti and I upgrade to a RTX 3070.

I'm playing warzone mostly, after I changed the GPU I've noticed an improvement in the game fluency but the FPS seems to be lower than it should. From 70 to 90, of course it depends where you at in the map and what you looking at.

Graphic settings are set on low.

Fullscreen. 1080p.

Yesterday I was playing with someone who has a 1080Ti and standing in the same place that person had 145 FPS and I had 75! (Both Nvidia FPS counter)

i7 8700k @3.2 GHz

RAM 32GB 8x4 Kingston Predator DDR4 2933

GIGABYTE RTX 3070

My settings are low as I said, RT is disabled, she had some graphics settings turned on like motion blur but I don't know about other settings.

The CPU is bottlenecking?

might want to get an aftermarket cooler and OC your cpu, make sure you have the correct drivers for your gpu too.

Everything is up to date, even motherboard, well, I'll see what other people say. Thank you very much for your help and concern.

I doubt the cores are stuck at 3.2GHz, the turbo speed when gaming should be around 4.3 to 4.5

but have you checked to make sure the temps are alright? If not, try some software like HWMonitor

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

It's completely impossible Intel integrated runs a highly demanding Video Game at 90 fps, 20 fps faster than a GTX 1070TI...

Yeah ok, and what was the rest of their specs?

Also did I understand that right, you do have an Intel CPU with "stock" cooler???

1080p lowest settings, OP wasn't saying the 1070 ran at 70 FPS and the 3080 runs at 90, he was saying that it fluctuates from 70-90

although i could be completely wrong I have no idea how good the 8700k's igpu is, it was just an idea.

Yes, never had any trouble, I bought some extra coolers for better air flow, I never OC the GPU. Is not a must to buy a better cooling for the GPU is it, I will buy a new one anyway.

I don't think the mobo has an integrated video card... anyway its connected to the GPU no worries.

What I meant was that the FPS fluctuates from 70 to 90.

Intel i7-8700K

Highlights

  • 6 Cores & 12 Threads
  • 3.7 GHz Clock Speed
  • 4.7 GHz Maximum Turbo Frequency
  • Intel UHD Graphics 630

I was just saying these integrated graphics would never run warzone at or even close to 70 fps, you'd probably looking more at 1-2 fps lol, though I can't find any benchmarks,  it is very obvious anyway.

Oh! Big mistake  by me! You're right about the CPU it's not K version just 8700.

Does it mean the CPU is the problem?

The cooler doesn't allow it to work at it's full potential or it's not good enough? Should I get a new CPU or a good cooler will be enough?

Thank you for your help, and sorry for my stupidity it was an honest mistake.

Yes. The cpu is good but needs a better cooler. Like a normal tower cooler for 30 bucks or so should be fine.
