Long time no see.!

Budget (including currency):

Whatever's needed. Let's not be excessive though.

Country:

Sweden

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

Photoshop, Premiere, Capture One, Lightroom, Blender. Games, but doesn't have to be at 200++FPS on triple 4K displays. You get it!

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

*Breathes in*

SO! Here we are.

I'm looking to upgrade. Boy has it been a while, yet not long at all. Be somewhat out of the game for a year or two and you'll totally lose track of "what's hot".

Since this August I've started studying. "Digital Image Processing". This, as described above, means I need to run heavy stuff.

This is something my current PC can run, without a doubt, but it has had some hickups on the CPU and RAM mostly. Things aren't running as fast as I'd like them to. (even though I clocked the CPU to 4.5GHz)

Then again, I have no clue if something else also should get upgraded while I'm at it. I don't think intels extreme platform is something I want to go for again.
Gaming is secondary for this rig.

TLDR:
I mainly want to upgrade RAM and CPU, do you think I need anything else?

The GPU does what it has to for the time being.

This is my old machine.

Any thoughts and help is appreciated, thanks!

Considering that you only have "minor hiccups" a 5600X should do just fine. If you want a better CPU you can upgrade to a 5800x/5900x

Hmmm I'd say maybe get 32GB of RAM (2x16GB) of whatever brand you like most but I see you like the vengeance so maybe go with that it's a quite good memory kit. Maybe go with the i9 10900k I'm not an expert on intel, but that's what I'd say

it's solid but for the Blender and other render uses outlined, I'd recommend something more like a 5900X for sure.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

for Blender 16 gb should suffice.

@MVPernula

I would keep the drives, psu and the case. You oculd go with better airflow case but that is up to you. Also how old is your cooler? You probably cannot get AM4 bracket from

corsair free.

These should be fine for blender (32 gigs of ram is up to you, blender runs fien with 16, but better with 32)

But 16GB should be fine unless you want to be doing some really heavy work but if it's in your budget then I see no reason to upgrade so you don't need to upgrade in the future

Much better. Has more cores = better multithreaded performance. IT also has better single core performance= better than Intel in gaming.

Also lower power usage and pcie 4.0 support.

since you do not have a glass panel how about Artic Freezer II 360mm or 420mm aio on the top? they are one of the best aios, but they do not look that good.

I realize now I have the wrong chassis in my parts list.

I have the Fractal Design R6 with a glass panel.

I'll probably sell the RAM as well. I can find matching ones, but they're ridiculously expensive. Probably becuase they're old enough to be "rare". It'll almost cost me as much getting two of the same as I already have (16GB) as getting a new set ot 32GB.

That's a good idea. Try selling that cpu+Mobo+ram combo for around $300. And get yourself a r9 5900x + a decent x570 board + 16/32gb 3600mhz cl16 kit.
