When did the X570 Tomahawk get so expensive?

probably overcharging because there's high demand for them, or MSI realised they can charge more for it, and increased prices

Yeah it's $350-$400 everywhere. Was going to order a B550 Tomahawk today, but thought "well I do plan on doing all NVMe, lets look at the X570 flavor". 

 

Screw PCI-E 4.0, 3.0 should be plenty fast for DirectStorage, B550 it is for $180 vs $350. 

 

This is for my office computer BTW, which does alot of 30GB-2TB sustained transfers, hence the interest in X570. I'm just going to take the X570 out of my home PC and use that at the office instead and keep the B550 for home gaming.

b550 is pcie 4.0 get a b550-f or a b55o pro from gigabyte

I got the B550 Tomahawk, I was pretty dead set on it to begin with.

Correct me if I am wrong but don't the game makers have to add the API to their games to even make DirectStorage work? If so we might be waiting awhile for it to be relevant except for newer games.

You are correct, and nothing currently supports DirectStorage. But to give you some context, this is going to be replacing an i7 3770 build I did almost 10 years ago. PCI-E 4.0 storage and beefy VRM's for a 5950 (or possible 5990?) is important to me for longevity sake. Home PC's going to stick to 6-cores since games need video card more than anything.
