What to Upgrade

CrustyButt

Hey guys, I have been wondering what to upgrade for awhile, I believe I need a GPU upgrade. It plays modern games at 1080p on medium / high but would like a new graphics card that is capable of pushing the 3 monitors in front of me. My specs are the sig. My CPU is OC'ed and no problems there, I also would like to upgrade to 16GB of RAM when the prices drop. However, the main issue still occurs: I can't run games as well as I would like to. So I guess this thread is more of a "what graphics card should I get" type thread. My budget isn't definitive, however, I would like to keep it under $350 US. Thanks!

CPU: FX 8120 @ 4-4.5ghz  GPU: XFX 6870 2GB (upgrading soon)  MOBO: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3  CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo (Upgrading soon)  PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 775  Case: HAF 932 Advanced (Modded to not look ugly)  Storage: Kingston 120GB and way too many HDD's  Audio: Razer Charcarias Peripherals: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 & Logitech M325

For under $350 you won't be running games at very good settings on three monitors, just so you know.

280X may be best for surround with the extra VRAM.

yeah the built looks quite good. You wont really need 16gb vram though.

Id go with

Gtx 770

edit: but dont expect wonders at surround.

The Asus 770 would be a good choice for you and is only about $10 over you "budget": http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-gtx770dc2oc2gd5

A 280X would be nice for the extra 1GB of VRAM but they are very hard to come by at a good price because of miners. The cheapest 280X I can find is about $400 and I think it is worth it to get it because of the extra VRAM but it's up to you.

My Current Build:

There really is no definitive winner. I don't really I have a preference for AMD or nVidia, so should I just get the cheaper one or what?

They don't even make a card that has 16GB vRAM (not consumer based atleast) ; I just want some more RAM because of the amount of multi-tasking I do :)

Do you want the three monitors for gaming?

You are not going to be able to do 3x1080p with a $350 GPU. Yes, it will work, no, it will not be 60FPS+

If you are doing 1x 1080P for gaming - a 770 will do pretty much anything on "ultra" settings at over or around 60FPS.

I realize I won't be and "kinda" knew that from the beginning :) I just wanted a card that will be more capable of powering the monitors than my current 6870. Anything will be an upgrade I believe :D

Haha, yeah, it's great fun when you are at the point where almost anything will be an upgrade. You definitely won't be dissapointed with the performance upgrade you'll get with a 770 :)
