Connecting Electric guitar to PC.

Go to solution Solved by Ahoy Hoy,

The product you are looking for is an audio interface.

It normally has a USB cable to connect the the computer and then a XLR or jack ports on the front to plug microphones and musical instruments into.

If your after something budget. You be looking at products from a company called Behringer. If your after something a bit more up market have a look for the company Focusrite.

Hey, I've recently picked up electric guitar and I would like to connect it to my PC but I'm unsure about what's the best but not overly expensive way to do it.

The main reason would be so that I can record it and listen back to it and share it to a friend who is helping me learn. And also it would be fun to mess with effects without having to buy pedals and expensive amps.

I'm sure I will later on, but I'm still super early in the learning process so I'd rather not spend on those just yet.

I do have a practice amp which is a IBZ10GV2 from Ibanez        that has an AUX IN port that can apparently be used to connect them up somehow. I also have an amp and a dac for my PC, if that matters.

The AMP is pretty noisy though so it would be nice to use something different but if this is my best option then I'd be fine with it. What are my options here?

Ah nice, thanks. :D

So would I just take a standard guitar cable and connect it to an interface or do I need a different cable or an adapter for it? I can get a Focusrite Scarlet Solo 3rd gen but it's hard to tell from the pictures what size the plugs are.

Standard guitar jack will work fine.

yeah It will work just fine it looks slightly different because they are combined xlr ports wich means you can use the line 1/4 corder jack from the guitar and also can connect a xlr mic or xlr line but not at the same time you find it on audio interfaces and mixers nowdays just gives you the flexibility to connect what you need.

I would suggest the UMC202HD over the solo but in the end it's up to you, any interface should do what you're asking.

Is there any difference besides the price?

202HD has more inputs and dedicated headphone volume controls, other than that it's mostly aesthetic differences
