Component Supply Issues In 2020

Hi Everyone,

I was looking at building a PC for video editing, Maya and RTX Minecraft , but finding parts at the moment is near impossible. I wanted to use the New Ryzen chips (almost completely sold out) and an RTX Graphics card (literally none in stock, not even 20 series). Everyone being stuck inside with COVID is probably worsening things, but it's mad how difficult getting your hands on any of this stuff is right now...

I'm based in the UK, how are people around the world finding it? I would guess our allocation probably isn't as good as North America, but it's probably far from the worst in the world. That crown usually goes to Australia, every company gives them the short end of the stick lol...

If people have tips on websites to look at, for the most part I'm on Amazon and NewEgg.

There is your problem. Just like when people are looking for the new consoles also try finding stores people do not usually look at. Yes stock will be smaller but honestly trying these smaller stores has gotten people items they have wanted. No sense running your head into a wall trying the same thing over and over and getting nowhere.

PS: I will say though I was surprised how long an ASUS RTX 3070 of some sort stayed up for sale with stock one day. Only ran out when I brought attention to it on a deal site.

The new Zen3 CPU's just launched, and because of the hype, no to low stock is to be expected. It's more a matter of whether or not they can get CPU's restocked soon and at reasonable levels.

Nvidia on the other hand really seems to not have much stock coming in for a while. It could take a lot of time. If you can find a local PC shop to place a backorder for that would be the best option, otherwise it's a waiting game.

I live in Canada and the situation is more or less the same.

Throughout covid other parts have had scarcity issues. One that I am still seeing low stock on is PSU's. Memory supply was also drying up here for a bit but seems to have normalized again.

I'll message one of the more independent supplies in Manchester and see what they have to say. It's online shopping only due to the lockdown, so that may exclude some places, but I'll message and see if they can let me know when they have stuff in stock.

I'll see if I can place a backorder for an RTX 3070 first, then I can look at CPUs. I would like Zen3, but I'll probably look out for a black friday deal on any 3000 series processors, if there are any.

If it's online shopping only and they're hurting for business. You might be able to do no contact delivery. I don't know what your restrictions are though.

Covid is still a thing, I know for a fact it is causing many supply chain issues, people seem to forget. Not saying you are, but often people get all butt hurt about low supply when there is already one good excuse, nevermind the fact that Nvidia was not able to / did not properly build up stock prior to launch. Likely to get ahead of the AMD GPU launch and new console launches.

Yeah give that a go, you can always cancel as well.

Typically previous gens do not go on sale, supply just dries up prior to a launch as they are no longer being manufactured. However in the past AMD has been more likely to put old stock on sale, whereas Nvidia or Intel almost never do. Although, Intel has recently done so as there is still a lot of 9th gen product out there, but they are on their heels so AMD really forced their hand.
