Motherboard not detecting GPU?

Hello! 

I recently bought a used computer from a friend. As soon as I got the PC, I tried booting it up with DVI in the graphics card, but my monitor just says "No signal detected". I even tried my old GTX 770, didn't work either. So i use the computer with the integrated Intel 4600 Graphics. I feel I have tried it all, updated BIOS, reset the whole computer, checked the PCI slot, tried changing PCI slot aswell, didn't work.

The GPU fan is running, and everything seems fine in that regard. However it does not show up in Device Manager. I have tried to reinstall NVIDIA drivers, but It won't let me do it because NVIDIA doesn't detect a GPU..

The computer worked fine when my friend had it by the way, so I didn't get scammed.

I have been through all corners of the internet for the last month trying to find a solution, nothing has worked so far. Any tips is appreciated, thank you!

Motherboard: Asus Z97-Pro

CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k

GPU: Asus 1060 6GB Dual OC

Ram: Corsair Dominator 16GB 1866MHz

PSU: Silver Power SP-SS850 850W PSU

There is a setting in the bios to tell it to use the integrated graphics or GPU as the primary.

Have you checked that setting?

I assume you are also plugging the video cable into the GPU when you put it in the system right?

You are not leaving a monitor on the integrated port also are you as that may trigger the integrated GPU to take over before the GPU?

try cleaning and reseating it. and connect it to the internet mine just needed to download some generic driver through windows update and it just worked after

If its not being detected and seen at all in device manager its not a driver issue.

 

Put the card in the system and then clear the bios.

This forces the bios to redetect hardware and will hopefully then see the GPU.

Even a GPU without drivers should still get into windows.

And at minimum should still get a signal and get into the bios.

Also check for option in BIOS for plug and play devices. You want it to be set on BIOS to decide for PnP not OS. 

And other than that if you have fresh install of windows you want to make sure your storage is not set to IDE. I was having trouble with onboard ethernet because hard drive was set on IDE after clearing bios. and had to install it over again after switching to AHCI

Thanks for the tips. I just tried clearing BIOS, still no luck there. I turned off the computer, took out the little battery on the motherboard for 2 minutes, then I took it back in and booted up with the DVI in the GPU, nothing happened there. The DVI didn't work on the integrated graphics either after that, so I had to use VGA cable. The DVI is working now, but not on the GPU.
