PC use after a long period

yas1320

Hi

I'm after some advice.

Hopefully, I've posted this in the right place.

I have my PC which I haven't used in about 2 years due to issues with electrics in the room.  My question is, once iI have the electrics sorted out and before I switch it on, do I need to take any precautions.  I know I need to ensure there isn't any buildup of dust in the case, but is there anything else?

Thanks in advance.

I'd just open it up and clean out the dust. Otherwise there should not be any damag from just standing around. Just turn it on then.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I agree with @Stahlmann

Open it up, clean it up, make sure everything is secure, cards are fully inserted.

Fire it up and see how it goes.

If you are going to do much more than a little bit of use, then i agree with @rheyL also in repasting the CPU after sitting so long.

Thanks for the advice everyone.  I'll be sure to look into it.  I'll have to wait a little longer until I can get it running.  The entire house electrics needs rewiring 😭.  I'm thinking of moving locations of the PC now, would the PC be safe to be put next to a bay window?

As long as its not going to get wet, or get enough sunlight to cause thermal problems.

Battery backups are great to help shield PC's from wiring issues. I run all my expensive electronics on them and firmly believe their longevity is increased for doing so.
