Depending on how good S.A.M. is, you may get 10% performance boost on top of the 20% boost you'd get from the 5600X... Or you may not get any boost on top of the CPU upgrade. The CPU however would be a worthwhile upgrade if a 17-23% average framerate bump is worth the price to you.

I have an ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) motherboard and a water cooled Ryzen 5 3600x CPU with 32gb of DDR4 3600mhz RAM at CL16.
Is their much point in upgrading my CPU to a Ryzen 5 5600x to utilise Smart Access Memory given I have a Benq 144hz 1440p monitor? If I can 100+ fps on AAA games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Ghostrunner, Horizon Zero Dawn and Star Citizen I'd rather save my money.

Honestly, I think the best way to answer that is to try it with what you already have right now. If you can't do it, then you should upgrade. But if you can, then it's money saved.

 

The Ryzen 5 3600X is a pretty good CPU for gaming, and the Ryzen 5 5600X hasn't altered that.

I would wait for reviews before jumping to any conclusion, the difference smart access memory makes may be too low to be significant. The new AMD CPU though is very powerful, if you thing you are going to need this extra power then upgrade your CPU for sure.

I would just keep your CPU, and if you are not satisfied with your performance then you can decide to upgrade to the 5600x. You have nothing to lose as you already own the 3600x. 

 

We have to wait on the performance numbers of the 6800xt but even the 6800 might make more sense for 144hz 1440p gaming.
