Bought XCOM: EU, but cannot play it on Steam (DRM)

I recently bought a physical copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown; only to find the steam code had been used. I cannot afford to buy a new Copy of it on Steam. Is there a way I can still play this game?

This begs the question of where you bought the game.

 

Was it the game's official store? Open a support ticket with them.

 

If it was from a grey marketplace, there's a chance that support fixes your problem but it's a lot more slim.

It costs about 1 - 2 bucks on some CD-Keys sites, so you should be able to afford another copy.

Physical copy... from big chain store or from garage sale/eBay-like? If it was sealed, then you can go to store (steam support is slow) and demand either another copy or refund. The point of sealing cases is to prevent keycodes for being used multiple times.

If you bought the game at some stationary shop - and best if you kept the receipt - you can either go through Steam support or refund it at that shop.

If second hand, you're at a loss (unless the site this purchase went through has some refund process).
