Minimum Amount of RAM?

So I was wondering if a motherboard has a max memory of 128gb with four slots does that mean I have to use 32gb ram sticks; not sure if it works that way or if that's a stupid question. Like I know there's max amounts for RAM but are there minimum amounts? Thanks for your help.

Well, no not really. There are some other restraints (Ram speed, Cas latency) but you don't really have a "minimum" for the motherboard per se, iirc- I may be wrong

If u want the maximum amount of Ram u will need 4 x 32GB matching in pairs.

 

Minimum amount of ram would be 8GB using 2 x 4GB matching sticks.

If you want 128gb of ram then yes. You need 32gb sticks. 

 

If you don't want 128gb of ram, use any size in the version needed (ddr2, ddr3, Ddr4)

Minimum would be 4gb. Single channel is an option.

Why 8GB? because u would run dual channel for a start and secondly 8GB is the minimum requirements on most prebuilt systems these days.

But that's the minimum for some random software, not the motherboard like he asked about. And running dual channel is not a mandatory requirement.

But your information is not correct. New boards have a minimum of one stick needed. And ddr4 has a minimum of 4gb. (unless you use so-dimm which has 2gb)
