Why are "Ultrawides" so expensive?

Hullo,


I've been looking in to some monitors recently, and I've been suprised at how expensive 34's and 38' are- I mean, The cheapest 34's I've found are in the mid-300's, for an older model year monitor with a 1080p display- I could buy a 1080p 32' for around $200, or a 1440p ips panel for $250 or so. Same thing with a 38'. Cheapest one I could fine was like $700, most are $800+, but It seems pretty stupid. There are just marginally smaller monitors that are so much cheaper. Can anybody offer an explaination as to why?

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

It costs a lot to make and the market is smaller

Non standard aspect ratio probably makes it harder to manufacture as you have to find some manufacturer that will do it. Most are probably streamlined in creating 16:9 panels. Also the curve most monitors have probably adds cost as well

You can get a smaller ultra wide for a reasonable price though I have a 25inch lg ips ultra wide and they make a 29inch version for around 200$ mine was only 160$ and you can get a really nice one for 600+ but why can’t there be a in between just a 144hz 1080p 29inch for 350

I realize? I was more of asking why they are so expensive, rather than what are some other alternatives. Ty for your help, but I think I have that sorted :)

A standard monitor sells to everyone and their grandma. An ultrawide only sells to a fraction of gamers, which are a fraction of PC users in the first place.
