are 4 cores, 8 threads and 4.2 ghz enough?

We're missing a lot of detail to give you a simple yes/no answer.

Mostly:

- Which CPU is it*?

- What are you doing with the system?
- What are the accompanying specs? (like RAM, videocard, etc.)

*Ghz, cores and threads doesn't tell the whole story. There is also something called IPC, instructions per clock. Ghz is how fast a CPU can do something, IPC is how many things it can do per Ghz.

Without knowing the exact CPU, we don't know the IPC, so we also wouldn't know how strong it actually is; just based on the Ghz.

Do you have this PC already?

ye i just got it, and its for gaming

A 3400G with 2x8GB of ram at 3200MHz is enough

FOR

gaming at 1080p low at around 60fps in lighter modern titles, office work and web browsing, word processing and programming.

NOT FOR

1080p 144Hz or 4K gaming, deep learning, high resolution video rendering, professional 3D modeling

Do you see why details are important and why everyone asked?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

For some light gaming (on Medium settings/simpler games) this CPU would work, if you're not using a videocard.

For a lot of different games you will want to get a videocard some day, but that depends on the games you are playing.

The message is intended as general moderation notice. For you, I suggest you explain more about what you are looking for and why you are asking the question. We aren't psychics here, so being able to help, more information about your situation and options is better. It will also remove some of the worse replies like seen in this thread without moderation intervention needed.

You can report any post that is attacking or otherwise unwanted. But don't use it towards differentiating opinions.
