Soundcard Toaster :D

I have my essence Stx sandwiched between two HD6970's. It gets pretty hot so how bad is it to do this.

I see no picture, also it's more of an issue for your GPU's than the soundcard.

I don't think there is any problem, also the gpu has a plastic shroud so I don't think much heat will be transferred to the sound card..

It may effect the longevity of the sound card but being asus's flagship audio card I won't worry about it. Most likely a long term issue and there's not much you can do.

Everything affects everything, shouldn't worry about it.

Common Sense, pc components in under high temperature especially ones not designed to be under said temperatures and don't have any real cooling capabilities being passive or active. Will degrade quicker then if said components where at a more optimal temperature. Although in any short term scenario this will not affect the components it may have a negative effect over a longer time frame.

This is why mobo's have cooling on the capacitors and chokes, because at higher temps they will degrade quicker.

Beyond electrical noise, nothing should really be an issue.

Oh, so its just pure conjecture as I thought.

It's not conjecture. He explained why. He said it might have negative impact on the life of the card because of it being wedged in between two of the hottest parts in a computer.

If your room is relatively clean of dusts, get one of those small desktop fan, like this: http://www.amazon.com/USB-Mini-Desktop-Fan-Black1/dp/B003FO0LG6

Blow directly to them. The fans work wonder, you'll be amazed at how much the heat would drop down. You'd have to clean the inside regularly though, as you're practically importing dusts inside. Depending on the situation, maybe once a week, or once a month.

Or if you're willing to invest more, get liquid cooling, works even better
