is there a reason you can't use a better browser for youtube then?

Different browsers are better or worse not only because GUI. If you choose browser that has problems with websites you're visiting, it's just not so good choice.

If privacy is of concern, you should be using Firefox.

If you don't trust Google, but want Chrome, then you have the new Edge web browser (Chromium based). It is Chrome but with Microsoft services instead of Google's, and has Microsoft optimizations applied to it (consumes less RAM (soon even less so), runs a bit better on slow systems, etc.)

If you don't trust Google or Microsoft, then you have Opera, which is Chromium based, but with Opera own expertise applied to it to put its own optimizations.

All 3 mentioned have YouTube working. They are many be others, but those are the most popular ones.

To add about the new Edge web browser, due to miss conceptions:

The new Edge web browser, will perfectly work with all Chrome extensions (beside themes, but that is coming shortly), works with all Google services, and have all codec and DRM to enjoy Netflix at 1080p and 4K, if you don't want to use the Netflix app under Windows 10. Also support AV1 codec if you have supported hardware for it (but that should be coming to all web browser as it is open codec)

Brave works just fine with youtube for me, what version are you running?

Expanding on that, I haven't had any issues with any websites while running Brave.
