Can't Use Headphones and Microphone Together At The Same Time?!?!

alanp1995

Hi all, I recently had an audio problem where I cannot use the microphone and headphones at the same time. I am currently using the Behringer UMC22 Audio Interface, I sold my old audio interface and bought the UMC22 to try and fix this problem, but it didn't fix it.

The audio drivers are installed correctly. The UMC22 uses the ASIO drivers.

The microphone will work on Windows startup, but stops when I begin to open apps such as Discord, which require the microphone. Windows will then default to the headphones working ONLY, to get any input to Windows from the microphone again, I need to restart Windows but the same problem occurs again.

Any ideas why my Mic suddenly stops working?

Side Notes:

- When I restart and start up Windows 10, I hear a sound in my headphones, like the input/output is changing for sound.

- The microphone works perfectly in a DAW, along with sound output, as I can change the "Audio Device Type" from "Windows Audio" to "ASIO".

- When using the Mic in the DAW, within Windows settings and Sound settings, there is no input detected.

Change the discord input settings to the UMC22 if you haven't already, it can be quite painful, also, make sure your sample rates are the same on both the mic and output and ensure that your DAW is not asking for a different sample rate but considering this has followed you across two interfaces my money is on it being a software issue with your PC.

A few things are mixed together:
- ASIO is restricted to a single application keeping control over a device (low latency low level access). You can't use different applications at the same time to output and input audio via ASIO.

- You probably set the sample rate and bit depth to different values for the input and the output of the UMC22. These have to be identical or it won't work.

I would recommend to delete any driver of the UMC22 from you computer, do a fresh reinstall and look through all the settings.

You're welcome!

I guess my second "tech tip" was the solution for your problem? 😄

i set the sample rate and bit depth to same values for input and output and problem is fixed. Thanks again. Cheers

Thanks mate! you solved my problem too xD. I have a Roland Rubix 22 and I had the same problem until I changed the bit depth on output and input with same values ^_^

Cheers! Take care
