Would it be better to go with an AMD APU, or a mix of an AMD/Intel CPU +Nvida/AMD GPU? Maximum budget is around 500, with a monitor + keyboard.

Also, the cheaper the better. I would like to bring it down into the 400 dollar range.

Edit: Well, your's is pretty much the absolute minimum, even for light gaming. Anything lower than that would be absolutely not worth it.

Get the Gigabyte GA-F2A55M-HD2 to squeeze down the price a bit.

it depends on what type of games are you wanting to play. if you are wanting to play stuff like BF4 and crysis then I would def save up for a dedicated GPU. but for smaller indie games like minecraft and games like TF2 you should be fine.

That's ~$115 more then what his budget is.

Would be a bare minimum system, with enough power to do *light* gaming (non 3d-shooters), and its just for a project.

u could go with the athilon 760k then a 750ti :)

Would be over budget, and highly not necessary.

I'm not really up to date with how good the APUs are, so I really don't know which one is better for what I need.

I think what you have there is best.

Would the A10 be too much, or is there anything better for my needs?

I think that it is perfect for what you need it to do and if you ever need extra power, you can get a cheap GPU and use the dual graphics feature.

I like this selection apart from the MB.   Buy the newer a88x chip set instead.

In the UK there is very little price difference.  A88x should give more options when it comes to upgrading in the future, assuming there is a Kaveri equivalent of the 750k coming.  But much more importantly, both the Gigabyte a78 and a88 have a darker colour scheme which looks nicer (in my opinion).

One other thing I suggest is that Dubesta ask friends and family for spare keyboards and mouse.  You can buy much nicer peripherals later.  A few extra dollars on the hardware at this price point can go a long way.  For example you could upgrade to the 760k for about $5.

I already have a ton of keyboards/mice.

Get a 760K and a R7 260X. The mix is really good, but you will be spending more. If you are really, really willing to give up some CPU power, get the X2/A6 and get a R7 260X

PC Build

AMD FX 4130@3.8GHz | Sapphire Radeon HD R9 290@947 MHz | 8GB of DDR3 1333MHz RAM | 500GB Seagate HDD | [broken] Cooler Master i600 PSU | Some LG Disk Drive that costed me $20|

A) Nobody in a budget build should spend $20 on a DVD writer. B:)Save the $10 and go with the 6790k C) For better overclocking get the Enermax ETS-T40-TB D) You can get a much better PSU than that for the same amount of $. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/387oG
