  1. See that makes more sense. We get 10% off of every product, with a multiplied 10% off of staples brand products. So 19% off of staples brand products. Given the fact we can see how much the cost to store is for some of the products, this is either good or super bad. Computers are the same way as you, the sale price is usually less than the cost to store, meaning we LOSE money on every transaction. That is why we need to push services and add ons so much. Don't be mad when you walk into retail, get tons of help, then buy the bare minimum. If you want to make the store happy, buy it online from the website and pick it up instore.
  2. Nope, no incentives to sell except to have a job. Also a small 10% discount. I did pick up a nice Dell laptop that was a display model through for practically nothing, so there are some benefits.
  3. Hey it's a job Thanks for your input. I'll play around with them more in store.
  4. Yeah its a strugle. Since I get a little discount at Staples, I might pick between these too: https://www.staples.com/HP-Pavilion-15-cc563st-15-6-Laptop-Computer-7th-Gen-Intel-Core-i7-1TB-SATA-HD-12GB-DDR4-Win-10-Intel-HD-Graphics-620-/product_2721080 https://www.staples.com/HP-Pavilion-X360-15-br010NR-15-6-2in1-Computer-7th-Gen-Intel-Core-i5-1TB-SATA-HD-8GB-DDR4-Win-10-Intel-HD-Graphics-620-/product_2721082 Since it would be 70% web browsing, 20% audio playback, and 10% light games, both of those might be a good option. She doesn't need a touch screen and would probably not use it much.
  5. I sell the x360's at my work too and can say that they are great laptops. If I could convince my girlfriend that she can just use a portable CD drive I might go with something like that since it opens up my options more. She also has access to her desktop with a CD drive, it's more about having a laptop with one for convenience.
  6. I am looking to replace a 17 inch HP laptop that has an older AMD cpu in it to a new 15 inch with a decent screen. Most laptops that I can find around the $600 mark either have a TN panel or are elsewise bad. Here is what I am looking for: -15 inch screen -IPS screen (Or very good viewing angles otherwise) -Dell/HP (Or other decent build quality) -DVD drive -SSD capable (Removeable HDD to swap with SSD). That is the basis for what is needed. I will be purchasing this as a gift in at most a month so I am trying to get an idea of what I need to buy. Any input would be great, thanks.
  7. Yeah that is quite the system for the price, 12GB of ram nearly sells for $120 today.
  8. True, most of my components help me out a lot. I use the LED strip as a white backlight because my office doesn't have built in lights. The stuff I didn't need the most would be the silent parts of the build, like Be Quiet fans and full SSDs. The standing desk was partially a gift because I was going to build a desk but it was more cost effective to buy a frame and use a laminate top from my work. Since this is my main hobby I tend to spend more money I need on it. It is sickening to build a good computer for $1000 and sell it for under $400, but that's how electronics work. My first computer was about $500 for everything, I bought a lot of used components and had a Phenom II x4 965 and a 7750 with a Lenovo monitor from BestBuy.
  9. I decided to calculate how much I have spent on my battlestation, including everything on and around the desk that I use. 10. I purchased a Logitech Z506 5.1 surround sound audio system for my computer at Bestbuy about a year ago. While it is a great system for the price, I no longer have a need for the surround sound part of it. My computer is now on a standing desk, and the length of the desktop speakers are too short to reach the ground. The right front speaker has a short serial connector that controls the power and volume to the floor receiver, and at standing height it wouldn't reach where I need it too. So I am most likely going to return them to bestbuy to get a full desktop system (I always purchase the 2 year warranty at BestBuy so I can return my used/broken electronics, no questions asked). I would be interested in studio monitors but I do not have the budget for that right now. Also, I don't need a subwoofer because I live in apartment, but I still need speakers with decent bass. What would the best option be for me to spend around $80-100 at Bestbuy? I have a decent sized desk so space shouldn't be a problem. Edit: Bose, but looks promising considering my options: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/bose-companion-2-series-iii-multimedia-speaker-system-2-piece/8864513.p?skuId=8864513
  11. I have windows on there currently, do you think Ubuntu would run smoother on it with a hard drive as the main drive? I was looking more into an operating system controlable by a remote, similar to what smart TV's use. I have a 4TB external drive that I use for all my media and PLEX/Subsonic streaming stuff. Swapping the Pentium would sort of be a pain in the ass, so I might just keep the AMD chip (which is overclocked as much as I can)
  12. Hello, A while back I decided to build a computer for the fun of it to see how cheap I could go without killing the performance. This is what I came up with: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD - A6-7400K 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor (Purchased For $50.00) CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - M9a 48.4 CFM CPU Cooler (Purchased For $20.00) Motherboard: Gigabyte - GA-F2A68HM-DS2H Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard (Purchased For $10.00) Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (Purchased For $40.00) Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Case: Silverstone - PS08B (Black) MicroATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $35.00) Power Supply: EVGA - 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $35.00) Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit (Purchased For $0.00) Case Fan: ARCTIC - Arctic F9 43.0 CFM 92mm Fan (Purchased For $6.00) Total: $196.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-07-07 14:51 EDT-0400 The CPU is okay, the cooler was almost necessary because the stock cooler sucked, the HDD was a random leftover drive, the case was great for the price with a large dust filter, and the PSU supplies power. I had an SSD in it as well but I am using that in a slightly better spare computer (older i3/motherboard from a dell, Radeon 7750) that my girlfriend uses. I am looking into using this computer for something, this is what I can think of: HTPC (I would need a simple operating system for it to interface with PLEX and possibly apps like Pandora/Netflix as a minimum) PLEX server (Currently using my desktop (i7-6700k, 4TB external drive), not sure if the CPU would be powerful enough) NAS with PLEX built in (Similar as above, but with the ability to access files throughout the network. Otherwise I might be able to swap my moms Pentium G3220 for the A6 if that would give me more performance. Any suggestions would be great.
  13. It is going up for sale! This should be interesting...
  14. I have a nice overclocked i7-6700k @4.8GHz with an ASUS GTX 1060 that overclocks very well (Effective clock speed at 2088MHz). During the summer I work full time and have little time to game, and soon I will be in school and will have little time to game. So right now all my GPU is doing is driving 2 1080p monitors. I have been considering selling it during the GPU price spike in order to make up for some of the money I spent on it (around $300 when it first came out) to put towards things like loans. The dual monitors are very nice to have so I hope my ASUS Z170-E will support dual monitors (HDMI and DVI). What do you guys think? Recent sales for the exact GPU I am selling went for around $300 dollars. If I sold it, I would wait for a good sale on a GPU, possibly a 580 for use with a freesync monitor in the future, or an EVGA B-Stock item. I have the original packaging for it.
  15. I decided on the Merge Works HighRise since it came in white and was Prime shipped with 2 day. I'm going to install it next weekend with my laminate top. I also chose it because it was white and would blend in very nicely with my current office furniture. The VIVO looked nice but did not come in white, and the Monoprice was cheap but the shipping is a killer if something happens to go wrong with it.
