Hello,

As the topic says this my first pc. I wanted to treat my self after graduating college so I save up some money from work and plan build my first pc. just get some things out of way. I am complete newb but have done alot research for the last 2 months( not that means much when there is so much to take in). I'm in the US and have a build budget of $3000. these inculdes peirehrals like windows, monti, keyboards, headphones, mice, and mouse pad.I plan to use this pc for mainly gaming and lite solidworks and autocad, when I get the money buy those programs. I play wide variety of games, from witcher and darksouls, to skyrim, and starcraft. And yes, if anyone is wondering I been console gamer until now. btw red/black theme for the parts.

This is my current build list idea. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/benship/saved/3tu7

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($319.99 @ Amazon) I choose this because I wanted a powerful cpu to be able handle the solidworks and autocad. I wanted "k" version because I am interested in overclocking.

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($94.99 @ Newegg) I choose this because I know these aoc fits in the case I like. not sure one of the better ones can fit with the motherboard.

Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste  ($6.73 @ OutletPC) From all the reveiws, this consider good compound.

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($195.99 @ Amazon) debated this one alot (still am to be honest) against the sabertooth. I like the sound of the hero and overclocking helpful bio's but I like tuf and cooling of the sabertooth. would like your taughts on want to pick. btw the hero has the red/black look and is cheaper :)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($206.26 @ Amazon) memory with a good reveiw, not much to say.

Storage: Corsair Force Series GS 180GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  ($165.98 @ Newegg) storage for the windows boot drive
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($57.99 @ NCIX US) storage for all my games and programs

Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB Video Card  ($699.99 @ SuperBiiz) debating this one still, read alots reviews and bench marks. these is one the cases where i need advice. mainly debating this one and msi gaming 780 ti. again the red black theme. i dont plan to overclock right away but i am interested in learning how later. also plan sli the 780 ti later down the line in a few years.

Case: Cooler Master Storm Trooper ATX Full Tower Case  ($162.81 @ SuperBiiz) i really love the look of these case.

Power Supply: Cooler Master V1000 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($193.99 @ SuperBiiz) overpower power supply for these rig. i keep reading overpower cpu are better and if you ever overclock you need more, as well as sli later. any advice would be nice.

Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B3ST/BLK/G/AS DVD/CD Writer  ($25.97 @ OutletPC) basic drive, nothing major just taught I at least have one.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)  ($89.99 @ NCIX US) yup, all benchmarks say this works better for gaming than win 7, not sure y to be honest but hey benchmarks.

Monitor: Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor  ($276.98 @ SuperBiiz) this were I have not idea. any advice would be nice. I only plan to use one monitor right now and would like really good color and good refresh rate but those never seem to go hand in hand. again help is needed.

Case Fan: SilenX EFX-12-15 74.0 CFM 120mm  Fan  ($9.99 @ Newegg) match the theme and are rated very well
Case Fan: SilenX EFX-12-15 74.0 CFM 120mm  Fan  ($9.99 @ Newegg)

Keyboard: Cooler Master CM Storm QuickFire Ultimate Wired Gaming Keyboard  ($109.99 @ NCIX US) looks like good keyboard but I all care about is the brown switchs and that works for gaming.

Mouse: Razer DeathAdder 2013 Wired Optical Mouse  ($54.99 @ NCIX US) i looked at all the reviews and found myself agreeing with linus. so i choose this mouse.

Headphones: Asus Orion Pro 7.1 Channel Headset  ($104.99 @ Newegg) For the price point these headphones seem like a steal, yes i will buy a sound card later but for right now these seems like one best headphones i could find at this price point.

Total: $2787.61

last taughts:

I plan to have red black build so if you have any advice please keep that in mind. thanks for reading though this very long post, sorry for that. again I'm new and would like any advice you have. I do plan to buy the parts in the next 3 days.

Looks pretty good, the PSU is pretty overkill though and you're gonna get a lot of crap for that monitor.

*whiny voice*

Get an IPS monitor ermegerd colors etc blah blah.

There I got it out of the way :D

Oh and welcome to the forum BTW!

If you want a high refresh rate, Linus recommends BenQ's 144 hz 24 in monitor because it has the refresh rate and good color for a fast monitor, although it is more expensive.

This build seems to be pretty decent but if you plan to sli you only need 850 to 900 watts. You should look at a samsung evo 250gb ssd. More Space and you wont tell the difference, also the Samsung ssd's come with a really good software package. Other than that its pretty good.

Intel i5-4670K, Asus Maximus VII (z97), 16gb Kingston, Asus Gtx 780, Fractal Design Define Mini, 250Gb Samsung Evo, Corsair CS650M

Even if he does SLI a 750w would do. Maybe an 850w if he wants loads of headroom.

I'd drop the thermal compound because it comes with the cooler (good enough), get a smaller PSU, and ditch the Corsair SSD (go for a samsung EVO if u want performance, or a cheaper 120gb one to save $).

You've already gotten loads of great advice, but I just want to give you a very strong thank you!

It's your first post, and that has to be one of the most in depth well thought out first PC posts I've seen yet. Even some of the more seasoned forum members leave stuff out that we have to ask them.

It's great to see such thought put into it, descriptions and all.

Thanks!! And of course, welcome :)

I'd pass on the 780Ti in favor of a 780 if you're getting a 60hz panel. You'll be well within the limits in most games. If you go 1440p, then go with the 780 Ti.

Samsung SSD's are a great choice. I think for the same price you can grab a 250gb one? You should keep all boot programs on the SSD as well. I noticed you had them on the HDD?

I'd consider dropping the optical drive. Most things don't need discs, and if you have an internet connection you should be downloading the newest drivers anyway.

Thanks to all of you for the advice you all gave and thanks for the complement, dizmo.  Mainly wanted to explain my self as I am compelety new to this stuff. Never had a computer other than laptop which barely runs starcraft 2. Yah, I plan to change the psu to 850w from y'alls advice. still on the high side but thats due to me planning sli and over clock at later date. I didnt realize I could get samsung evo for same price as the kingston ssd. Btw when I said programs I meant autocad and solidworks. I will be keeping windows, windows office, note pad plus, and all the rest on the ssd. I'm still like to know people's taughts on the msi gaming 780 ti vs asus doc 780 ti. also if any one has any recommended montiors as the 399.99 benq would put me at the limit of my budget.
