Extremely low FPS

My friend has a EVGA 4gb 660ti, and he has a 1680x1050 monitor. Whenever he plays CS:GO which isn't a graphically intensive game(one of my compo's with a HD6800 can run it 60fps+ @ 1920x1200), but sometimes he has 60 fps and it'll randomly dip down to 20 or below and other times it'll be at a consistent 10. I checked to make sure that it isn't ping, always a consistent 50 or less. Any suggestions to why is framerate isn't consistent? It very rarely consistently plays @ 60 FPS.

dose he have all the drivers for it?

What's his other parts? Drivers, maybe a bottleneck somewhere?

 

There could be so many reasons why this is happening.

It could be a virus, or a driver issue. Try re-installing the game and check your pc for viruses. And download MSI afterburner and see if your card is acting unusual while idle and while playing games. I had a 550ti run at 95% idle and it turned out to be a defective card.

First thing I did was check multiple times for viruses and there were none, I'm in the process of installing drivers to make sure that isn't the problem.

It should be nearly 100% or 100% GPU usage all the time right?

What I'm seeing is most of the time less than 50% and it jumps from 1-20% to 40-50% consistently. Should it get RMA'd?

did you check its temperature? it could be throttling from heat.

Just checked temperature, it isn't anywhere near overheating its only at about 40C and the GPU usage consistently fluctuates still.

What cpu does your friend have?
