Thoughts on Horizon Zero Dawn? 🤔

I just finished Horizon Zero Dawn on PC (although I played with a PS4 controller) and I’m wondering what you thought of it?

 

I thought it was pretty decent except the story had some issues.

 

I thought the combat was fun and unique though.

what issues did you have with the story??? Its an amazing game. I played it on PS4 when it came out and am playing it on PC now, its a great game with an AMAZING story

Idk I just felt like the only interesting part was the stuff in the past and with Elisabet Sokol and the GAIA stuff.

 

I didn’t think the present day story was very good though. It just didn’t have anything unique where I couldn’t wait to see what happens next.

Well I mean, thats the whole main story surrounding all that. There is a TON of great stories in the game that don't tie in, but tell an amazing short story on its own.

I think the ones with Teeb and Bost early on set the tone really on your choices. The ones with the Hunting Lodge were good as well. You meet a lot of people along the way that kind of give you a quick story as you help them find X Y Z, or free bandit camps and save prisoners. Most of the side missions are designed to give you a glimpse into what people are feeling, doing with the machines running rampant as you progress on the main story with Aloy and finding out the meaning of her life and existence in the game.

I have held off buying this game since many people had performance and stability issues back in August. What's your experience regarding that?

Honestly I didn’t have any stability or performance issues at all.

 

I played the game from start to finish and aside from a crash when I was already exiting the game (Post-save) that was about it.

 

Note: My rig is pretty high end with an 8700K & 2080 Ti so your mileage may vary.

 

Personally I played at 1440p with max settings and got ~100fps ish.

I'm 24 hours in but only in the second area. Combat is really fun, but I don't get the feeling that it's a masterpiece...

Played it on the PS4. Agreed, the combat against robots is fun, the humans are pretty lacking though. The story in "present day" was mostly... it felt like there wasn't enough time or just not enough focus on it. Some of the characters seem cool, but they don't really do anything and you don't spend any time with them.

Like the side quests, if you do all of them you get extra people to come to the final showdown, but you only did them a single favor and talked to them for a grand total of 15-30 minutes. Maybe some people get attached to characters super easily

 

The world feels like there's more thought and character put into it than what's actually shown so it ends up feeling a bit empty and hollow, though the past stuff was pretty well done. Either way, I'm interested in the sequel coming out. They might flesh out the present day and world more and get a more rounded experience.
